Algiers, April 22, 2015 (SPS) – {Algeria and Rwanda expressed Wednesday their support to United Nations\u2019 efforts to reach a just and lasting political settlement, based on Western Sahara people\u2019s \u201cinalienable\u201d right to self-determination through a \u201cfree, honest and impartial referendum.\u201d}<\/p>\n
\u201cOn the question of Western Sahara, the two leaders reaffirmed their support to the efforts of the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, and his personal envoy, Christopher Ross, to achieve a just and lasting political settlement based on the exercise by the people of Western Sahara of their inalienable right to self-determination through a free, fair and impartial referendum,\u201d stated a joint communiqu\u00e9 issued at the end of the state visit of Rwandan President Paul Kagame to Algeria.<\/p>\n
In this context, Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and his Rwandan counterpart reiterated their \u201csolidarity\u201d with the Saharawi people in their fight to achieve national aspirations.<\/p>\n
They expressed \u201csatisfaction\u201d for the contribution of the African Union (AU) on this issue, particularly of which the appointment of Mr. Joaquim Chissano as a special envoy, and the adoption by the Peace and Security Council of a communiqu\u00e9 on March 17, 2015.<\/p>\n
The two leaders urged the UN Security Council to \u201ctake all necessary decisions\u201d to ensure progress in the search for a solution to the Western Sahara conflict, recognizing its crucial role and primary responsibility in the maintenance of international peace and security.(SPS)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
