{A group of eleven men in Nyagatare District were arrested when they tried to disrupt and violently threatened police officers who had approached them to investigate a case involving cattle that had destroyed crops belonging to a local resident. } <\/p>\n
The incident happened on April 11 in Rubare Cell, Rwemasha Sector; when a resident reported to Police that cows had destroyed his crops. <\/p>\n
Police Spokesperson for the Eastern Region, Inspector of Police Emmanuel Kayigi, said that when officers arrived at the scene to investigate, they were hurled by stones and threats from a group of men who were apparently rearing the cattle. <\/p>\n
“It warranted the officers to apprehend them for their misconduct and violently interfering with the Police work, to give way for conducting their investigations into the case,” IP Kayigi said. <\/p>\n
They are currently held at Nyagatare Police Station as further investigations continue. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile Kayigi disclosed that the victim was later compensated by owners of the cows, following Police intervention. <\/p>\n
The Governor of Eastern Province, Odette Uwamariya condemned the behavior of the suspects and advised residents to respect the law and neighbors’ property. <\/p>\n
“This behavior must not be tolerated in Rwanda. We are all meant to respect one another and abide by the laws of the country. In such a case, the local farmer had reported and wanted justice to be served, and Police sought to ensure that he gets justice.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
