The summit which is also referred to as the Authority is the supreme policy organ of the COMESA and meets once a year.<\/p>\n
It is responsible for the general policy direction and control of the performance of the executive functions of the organization.<\/p>\n
The 19-member regional bloc aims to achieve sustainable economic and social progress through increased co-operation and integration in all fields of development particularly in trade, customs and monetary affairs but still facing some challenges to implement the essential agreements on these issues.<\/p>\n
The nineteen countries of COMESA are: Burundi, Comoros, D.R. Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sudan, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n
The last meeting of African head of states was during the 17th summit held in Kinshasa in February 2014.<\/p>\n
