{The organising committee of the International Conference for Economic Integration among Nile Basin Countries has named Rwanda\u2019s President Paul Kagame, personality of the year 2015.}<\/p>\n
The Nile Integra recognised Mr Kagame for his role in spearheading technology and innovations and the e-governance systems in the region. <\/p>\n
Dr Sherif El Khereby, a member of the committee, who made the announcement on Monday at a press briefing in Kampala, also said President Museveni was named personality of 2014. <\/p>\n
But the ceremony to award Mr Museveni, which had been scheduled for last year, was called off after the organiser, South Sudan, opted out citing the molten security environment.<\/p>\n
The committee said President Museveni had been monumental in transforming the once wretched State into a respected contributor to economic integration and regional security in the Nile Basin region.<\/p>\n
The region is composed of nine countries; Uganda, Egypt, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Sudan and Rwanda.<\/p>\n
The Nile Conference will convene on Thursday at Sheraton Hotel, Kampala, to formally award the heads of state. <\/p>\n
The Egyptian ambassador, Mr Ahmed Abdel Aziz Mostafa, will chair the meeting.
\nThe event will also coincide with Egypt World-Uganda Business Forum at the Uganda Manufacturers Association showground in Lugogo until Sunday. <\/p>\n
The business exhibition will feature about 80 Egyptian companies in Agri-technology, constructions, textiles, furniture and health. <\/p>\n
The State Minister for Finance (General Duties), Mr Fred Omach, said the forum will attract investors. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a unique opportunity for our country to position itself as a destination for Egyptian investments and the region at large,\u201d Mr Omach said.<\/p>\n
