{On March 8th, 2015, Rwandan women in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV), and friends of Rwanda gathered at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rockville, Maryland to celebrate the achievements of women while calling for greater equality.} <\/p>\n

Under the theme \u201cEmpowering Women, Make a Difference!\u201d The attendees reflected on the journey of a Rwandan woman and ways they can continue to uplift and empower each other. <\/p>\n

This educative program featured a diverse group of panelists. Patrizia Tumbarello, Chief Unit of Asia and Pacific Department at the International Monetary Fund shade some light on \u201cEmpowering Women through Gender Issues and Leadership.\u201d <\/p>\n

Building on her own experience she talked about the challenges of women in leadership and the importance of time management. She encouraged women to believe in their ability to achieve set goals; to prioritize and accept some imperfections along the way. <\/p>\n

Dr. Lorraine Beraho, a Pediatrician at Inova Children\u2019s Hospital highlighted the role of education in women empowerment. She commemorated and thanked her aunt and mentor, late Aloysia Inyumba who encouraged and supported her as she worked to get her doctorate. <\/p>\n

Beraho talked about the role of mentorship in women empowerment and encouraged Rwandan women, particularly the youth to see education as a doorway to achieving their dreams. Quoting the scripture, Providence Nyinyi Nindorera talked about the wife of noble character highlighting women\u2019s strengthen and dignity. She thanked God for all the success that Rwanda has recorded in uplifting women and celebrated the Rwandan woman as the \u201cheart\u201d of a family. <\/p>\n

Moderated by Antonette Kanyabutembo, a very thought-provoking discussion touched on various topics ranging from community\u2019s organization and economic empowerment; education, mentorship and career choice; family issues and youth engagement among others. The attendees reiterated their resolve to strengthen the Rwandan community\u2019s bond and to keep advocating for women equality. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
