“The commission will have to take adequate measures, if laws defining electoral districts for independent candidates are considered unconstitutional,” Abbas said.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, most of Egypt’s newspapers predicted the parliamentary polls \u2013 the third step on Egypt’s transitional roadmap, which was approved by the military and political and religious forces following the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July of 2013 \u2013 to be postponed.<\/p>\n
A judicial body has recently found some of the laws defining the electoral districts for independent candidates to be constitutionally flawed.<\/p>\n
A legal expert, meanwhile, told The Anadolu Agency that the polls might be held according to schedule only if the Constitutional Court turned down appeals against election laws.<\/p>\n
The expert added that another scenario was for the elections to be postponed if the court approves these appeals.<\/p>\n
The transitional roadmap also included a referendum on an amended version of the 2012 constitution and presidential elections.<\/p>\n
