{"id":183,"date":"2011-05-13T09:30:57","date_gmt":"2011-05-13T09:30:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/swiss-firm-advances-rwf-591-million-to-urwego\/"},"modified":"2011-05-13T09:30:02","modified_gmt":"2011-05-13T09:30:02","slug":"swiss-firm-advances-rwf-591-million-to-urwego","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/swiss-firm-advances-rwf-591-million-to-urwego\/","title":{"rendered":"Swiss firm advances Rwf 591 million to Urwego Opportunity bank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span data-scaytid=\"1\" data-scayt_word=\"responsAbility\">responsAbility<\/span> Social Investments AG, an investment company based in Switzerland recently made local-currency loans <span data-scaytid=\"7\" data-scayt_word=\"totalling\">totalling<\/span> the equivalent of USD 2 million to <span data-scaytid=\"8\" data-scayt_word=\"microfinance\">microfinance<\/span> institutions (<span data-scaytid=\"14\" data-scayt_word=\"MFIs\">MFIs<\/span>) Middle East Micro Credit Company (<span data-scaytid=\"16\" data-scayt_word=\"MEMCC\">MEMCC<\/span>) of Jordan and <span data-scaytid=\"17\" data-scayt_word=\"Urwego\">Urwego<\/span> Opportunity Bank (<span data-scaytid=\"19\" data-scayt_word=\"UOB\">UOB<\/span>) of Rwanda.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-scaytid=\"24\" data-scayt_word=\"rAMLF\">rAMLF<\/span> invested approximately <span data-scaytid=\"27\" data-scayt_word=\"RWF\">RWF<\/span> 591 million (USD 999,000) in <span data-scaytid=\"20\" data-scayt_word=\"UOB\">UOB<\/span>.&nbsp;Created as a result of a merger between <span data-scaytid=\"75\" data-scayt_word=\"Urwego\">Urwego<\/span> Community Banking<br \/>\nand Opportunity International Bank of Rwanda, <span data-scaytid=\"78\" data-scayt_word=\"UOB\">UOB<\/span> is a <span data-scaytid=\"66\" data-scayt_word=\"microfinance\">microfinance<\/span> institution<br \/>\nheadquartered in Kigali, Rwanda. Its services include loan and savings<br \/>\nproducts, business training, HIV\/AIDS training and insurance coverage. <span data-scaytid=\"84\" data-scayt_word=\"UOB\u2019s\">UOB\u2019s<\/span><br \/>\nshareholders include nonprofit organizations Hope International, Opportunity<br \/>\nInternational, World Relief and World Relief Canada. In 2009, <span data-scaytid=\"79\" data-scayt_word=\"UOB\">UOB<\/span> reported to<br \/>\nUS-based, nonprofit <span data-scaytid=\"85\" data-scayt_word=\"Microfinance\">Microfinance<\/span> Information Exchange (MIX) total assets of USD<br \/>\n10.8 million, a gross loan portfolio of USD 6.4 million, return on assets (<span data-scaytid=\"89\" data-scayt_word=\"ROA\">ROA<\/span>)<br \/>\nof -6.57 percent, return on equity (ROE) of -16.5 percent and 33,900 borrowers.<\/p>\n<p><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p>Founded in 2003, <span data-scaytid=\"3\" data-scayt_word=\"responsAbility\">responsAbility<\/span> Social Investments AG is a Swiss investment company whose products aim to enable investors to earn a financial return while assisting people in emerging markets to access information and markets in sectors such as <span data-scaytid=\"9\" data-scayt_word=\"microfinance\">microfinance<\/span>, small and medium-sized enterprise (<span data-scaytid=\"30\" data-scayt_word=\"SME\">SME<\/span>) financing, fair trade and independent media.
