{Uganda Tennis Association president Cedric Babu, has paid a glowing tribute, to his brother, friend Rwandan Jean Claude Gasigwa, who passed away on Thursday at 10am at the Cercle Sportif de Kigali in Rugunga, Rwanda.}<\/p>\n
“He was a brother, a friend and a great tennis player who I played with on court my great memory of him was the time we played for 4 hours in a quarter-finals in the Great Lakes tennis tournament in 2004 where he beat me in a three setter in the final set he win 7-6,” Babu said on phone. “He was a great player on and off the court and we also played doubles together he will surely be missed by the tennis family in this region.”<\/p>\n
Gasigwa 31, was found dead by his colleagues at 10.10 am local time in a football field where he is said to have been jogging on his own. His body was in the mortuary undergoing a postmortem with the Rwanda Tennis Federation still arranging his burial arrangements.<\/p>\n
The Rwandan player’s last tournament in Uganda was the Rak Tie Break tennis tournament last year where he reached semi-finals and lost to his friend and rival Duncan Mugabe in straight sets 7-4, 7-4.<\/p>\n
“I will be travelling to Rwanda to pay my last respects when he is laid to rest,” Babu added. “The Rwanda Tennis Association is arranging for his burial and the East African tennis fraternity will pay there last respects.”<\/p>\n
Unconfirmed initial reports indicate that Gasigwa could have died of cardiac arrest, but that will have to be confirmed by the doctors’ report after the postmortem.<\/p>\n
Lycie Hamissi, a coach at Cercle Sportif de Kigali, said the top seed did not have any past record of heart problems and that everyone is shocked by the news of his death.<\/p>\n
