{Rwanda\u2019s Interior Minister Sheikh Musa Fazil Harelimana, chairman of the Ideal Democratic Party (PDI) has repeatedly stated that the seven-year term renewable once should prevent no one from running for presidency if citizens want to continue with his leadership, IGIHE reports}<\/p>\n
Referring to article 101 of Rwanda\u2019s constitution, the term of office of the current President of Rwanda expires in 2017 when he completes his second and supposedly last term.<\/p>\n
The article is read as follows: \u201cThe President of the Republic is elected for a term of seven years renewable only once. Under no circumstances shall a person hold the office of President of Republic for more than two terms.\u201d<\/p>\n
Speaking to Journalist PDI Chairman said the article 101 of Rwandan Constitution should be changed by scrapping the seven-year term.<\/p>\n
Sheihk Fazil says \u201cThis constitution is not in favor of the Democratic principles (\u2026) the article 101 should be amended. This article is in opposition to the Democracy\u201d<\/p>\n
He said that in Democracy citizens enjoy full rights to vote for a leader of their choice adding that the limit of terms is to deny the citizen\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile PDI has proposed to reduce the number for a term from Seven years to Five years but without limits to allow citizen to repeatedly vote for a President in case they still want him to lead the country.<\/p>\n
