The situation in Ukraine was discussed last time on November 12 when Australia chaired the UN Security Council. During the session, Russian deputy permanent representative to the UN Alexander Pankin asked the colleagues \u201cnot to turn the Council\u2019s session into a farce and unbridled hysteria\u201d.<\/p>\n
Cherif said such problems as the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the conflicts in Mali and the Democratic Republic of Congo would be on the agenda\u2019s references.<\/p>\n
The UN Security Council\u2019s agenda in December is rather intensive. Four open debates are planned to be held under Chad\u2019s chairmanship \u2014 on Kosovo (December 4), on the work of international tribunals in Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia (December 10), on the situation in Afghanistan and on terrorism problems (December 18 and December 19 respectively). <\/p>\n
The Afghan issue has special importance. The Security Council has to adopt a resolution on a successor mission to the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF). This year its mandate expires. The Council chairman told TASS that at the moment the text of the document had not been prepared yet because the US had not given a report on its work.<\/p>\n
Without such report it is impossible to take a decision on extending the mission\u2019s mandate, the diplomat said.<\/p>\n
Cherif did not rule out that a resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli settlement would be adopted till the yearend.<\/p>\n
