{A top priority for Senate Democrats in their last remaining weeks in the majority is to work through the backlog of White House nominees.}<\/p>\n
Working toward that goal, the Senate cleared by voice vote four career diplomats for their U.S. ambassador assignments on Monday night. One, Karen Clark Stanton \u2014 executive director of the State Department\u2019s Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, to be ambassador to Timor-Leste \u2014 had been waiting 401 days for her confirmation.<\/p>\n
The others are:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Barbara Leaf, nominated in July for the United Arab Emirates. Since 2013, she was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Arabian Peninsula.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Ted Osius, nominated in May for Vietnam. He was most recently a professor at the National War College.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Erica J. Barks Ruggles, nominated in June for Rwanda. She was most recently Consul General at the U.S. Consulate in Cape Town, South Africa.<\/p>\n
There are some 60 nominees who have been waiting months to leave for their overseas posts. Looks like a bunch will be relocating in time for the holidays.<\/p>\n
