And the FDD says corrupt individuals within the PF want to push their puppet to become Republican president to cover up their criminal activities. Meanwhile, Edith Nawakwi says PF secretary general Edgar Lungu can’t be trusted.

In an interview, FDD spokesperson Antonio Mwanza said Zambians must reject manoeuvres by a clique within the PF that was dishing out money and enticing people to give massive support to someone who never even dreamt of becoming president of Zambia.

“These times are too serious to have a drunken president. What Zambia needs right now is not a president who is going to be voted by way of sympathy or because some people have recommended him that he is humble even when he is drunk. That’s nonsense! The PF should not impose a person with no moral standing to become head of state. This country is bleeding with high poverty levels among our people. Even having money to put nshima on the table is a serious struggle and we cannot allow a joker, a person with highly questionable character to become president,” he said.

Mwanza said this was not time for Zambia to have experimental leadership but a time to look for a politician of integrity with proven track record of leadership skills and ability to push for the country’s economic transformation.

He said some names that were being proposed by PF members of parliament and its central committee were shocking and demonstrated lack of seriousness on the part of the party in power. “This country needs a leader with a clear sense of judgment, with a clear mission of delivering development to the people. Those that are pushing people with weak personalities are corrupt and they just want to manipulate this country, and if their mission succeeds, this country will crumble,” said Mwanza.

And addressing journalists after announcing her candidature for the presidential election, Nawakwi, the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president, said Lungu had demonstrated that he could not respect the Republican Constitution if elected President. “Edgar Lungu is abrogating the PF constitution and he has demonstrated that he has no respect for the constitution. If he can’t control the intra-party problems, it is impossible for him to respect the Constitution. He is a candidate of dictatorship and he is in trouble because the people of Zambia are not foolish; they are just watching,” she said. Nawakwi said Zambians would pass the verdict on who should be their President.

She said the agenda among politicians was clear and that people needed to make a wise decision. Nawakwi invited other political parties to join and support her during the Presidential election. She said enacting a new Constitution would be her party’s priority once elected into government. “All my brothers must accept that I am the oldest [opposition] politician and must support me,” she said. Meanwhile, Nawakwi said it was callous for anyone to ask Dr Christine Kaseba to contest the PF presidency.

She said Dr Kaseba should be given time to mourn her husband. “Let’s be humane for once and treat this [Sata’s death] as a family loss; let’s respect the family. Please, let’s leave her out of this, it’s not easy to lose a closest friend. If anything, the chaos in the PF, the fighting for positions to replace her husband, is hurting the first lady,” said Nawakwi, adding that it was unfortunate that people who claimed to be Sata’s friends were fighting.

– See more at: http://www.postzambia.com

THE current times are too serious for Zambians to have a drunken president, says the Forum for Democracy and Development.
