{"id":17294,"date":"2014-11-10T02:49:55","date_gmt":"2014-11-10T02:49:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/un-genocide-envoy-warns-on-burundi-tensions\/"},"modified":"2014-11-10T02:47:39","modified_gmt":"2014-11-10T02:47:39","slug":"un-genocide-envoy-warns-on-burundi-tensions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/un-genocide-envoy-warns-on-burundi-tensions\/","title":{"rendered":"UN genocide envoy warns on Burundi tensions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{The United Nations&#8217; top advisor on preventing genocide on Saturday appealed for dialogue and greater freedoms in Burundi, which he said needed to avert &#8220;the worst&#8221; ahead of elections next year.}<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the seat of the UN-backed Rwandan genocide tribunal in Arusha, Tanzania, Adama Dieng said Burundi had the right to vote &#8220;in complete peace&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The forces of evil must not be allowed to push certain actors toward criminal violence,&#8221; he told reporters, warning of a rise in political violence in the small central African nation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The best way to halt this violence is to bring all political players together to talk.
