The prosecution has recommended to a judge on Thursday that a group of 10 members of a Christian organisation called “INTWARANE ZA YEZU NA MALIYA” arrested in July last year for taking part in an illegal demonstration, be sentenced to serve 15 years in prison.<\/p>\n
The demonstration held by the members of the religious group known as \u201cIntwarane\u201d (Warriors of Jesus) was dispersed near the presidential residence located in Kiyovu, a suburb of Kigali city where the group said they wanted to present a prophetic message on the apocalypse to Rwandan President Paul Kagame.<\/p>\n
The arrest comes as the government continues to denounce the proliferation of sects which often divert people by preventing them from attending to national development activities.<\/p>\n
Such organizations whose activities are described by analysts as religious business have also been accused of intoxicating the people\u2019s minds by dividing them into ethnic and regional groupings.<\/p>\n
In Rwanda, a country of 10.5 million people, 63 percent of the population are Catholics and nine percent are Protestants, with the rest being Muslims and animists.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
