{Police in Ruhango district, yesterday conducted an operation and seized 20 litres of Kanyanga, a banned gin in Rwanda and 10 kilograms of cannabis.}<\/p>\n
One person; Claude Sibomana was arrested after police found the illicit drugs in his house in Nyamagana Cell of Ruhango Sector, following a tip off.<\/p>\n
The suspect is currently detained at Nyamagana Police station.<\/p>\n
Chief Superintendent Hubert Gashagaza, the Southern Province police spokesperson commended the existing partnership with members of the public in crime prevention particularly in fighting against drug-related crimes.<\/p>\n
He asked residents to maintain the partnership through community policing to ensure that drug dealing and other criminal acts are collectively fought and prevented.<\/p>\n
Gashagaza reminded that drug dealing and consumption in particular is a crime and punishable under the Rwandan laws.<\/p>\n
Article 594 of the Rwandan penal code stipulates that, any person who, unlawfully, makes, transforms, imports, or sells narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances within the country, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of three to five years and a fine of Rwf500, 000 to Rwf5m.<\/p>\n
