{The High Court in Kenya yesterday watched a documentary for one hour as part of proceedings in a defamation case}.<\/p>\n
The documentary is on a case in which Daniel Ngeera has sued Nation Media Group and journalist John Namu over a documentary titled “In the footsteps of Kabuga”, based on the Rwanda genocide.<\/p>\n
Ngeera is seeking damages after he was aired as Felicien Kabuga on NTV.<\/p>\n
Kabuga is a Rwandan fugitive wanted for the 1994 genocide in which more than one million people were killed.<\/p>\n
The US has placed a Sh400 million bounty for his arrest.<\/p>\n
In court papers, Ngeera says his moral standing has been put into disrepute as he has been shunned by the society after the documentary was aired on July 8 and 15, 2012.<\/p>\n
“The airing portrayed me as a criminal of the highest possible degree with a perpetrator of genocide on the run to escape arrest,” he said.<\/p>\n
The businessman says he identified his clothes, including a blue T-shirt on NTV but denied knowing Kabuga.<\/p>\n
He said the pictures broadcast were taken at his timber yard in Isiolo without his knowledge.<\/p>\n
“I do not remember offering myself for pictures. I do not know for what reason someone would have taken my pictures. I only saw them in the papers,” Ngeera said.<\/p>\n
He said the airing portrayed him as a dangerous person who has been disguising himself as a businessman in Isiolo.<\/p>\n
