“During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the strategic partnership between the UN and the AU and ways to continue to enhance such a cooperation in the area of peace and security,” Ban`s spokesman said.<\/p>\n
They also reviewed challenges to peace and security in Africa, including the situation in Libya, Mali, Somalia, South Sudan and the Great Lakes Region, Xinhua quoted the spokesman as saying.<\/p>\n
“Ban reaffirmed the UN`s commitment to a strengthened partnership with the AU and Regional Economic Communities (REC),” the spokesman said.<\/p>\n
The secretary-general also briefed the chairperson about the UN`s efforts to combat the spread of the Ebola disease in West Africa, the spokesman added.<\/p>\n
