{BUJUMBURA, (Xinhua) — Burundi has been chosen to be part of a new United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), the spokesman for the Burundian army colonel Gaspard Baratuza said over the weekend.} <\/p>\n
MINUSCA is set to replace the International Support Mission in the Central African Republic (MISCA) on Sept. 15, 2014. <\/p>\n
\u201cBurundi will have a chance to be retained during the mandate transfer, whereas other countries that contributed to MISCA did not have such a chance. There are some countries which, as from Sept. 15, will end their mission in the Central African Republic,\u201d Baratuza told the media. <\/p>\n
He said Burundi will contribute 850 soldiers who had been deployed under the auspices of the African Union, as well as Burundian police officers recently deployed to the country. <\/p>\n
He revealed that Central African Republic will be divided in three sectors with one of them placed under the African command, and it will be led by Burundi\u2019s Athanase Kararuza, currently the second in command in MISCA. <\/p>\n
MINUSCA\u2019s role will include civilian protection, supporting the transition process, facilitation of humanitarian aid distribution, promotion and protection of human rights as well as supporting the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration process. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
