{{In a move to further fight and prevent drug abuse, the Rwanda National Police (RNP) on September 2, held a meeting with students of Munyana Secondary School where the students were briefed on the effects of drug abuse.}} <\/p>\n

The meeting which was also attended by school staff discussed on different types of narcotic drugs commonly used in the country, they include cannabis and as well as their effects.<\/p>\n

Inspector of Police (IP) Alexandre Mwezi, the Gakenke District Liaison Officer said drug abuse is a serious threat to the security of communities.<\/p>\n

IP Mwezi also recounted that; drug abuse may also lead to other crimes such as theft, rape, assault among others.<\/p>\n

He pointed out to cannabis\/marijuana, kanyanga as being the common drugs used in the country.<\/p>\n

IP Mwezi told the students that drug consumption may also lead them into some malpractices like prostitution which he said has negative effects such as school drop-outs, unwanted pregnancies, and early parenthood.<\/p>\n

The District Liaison Officer further urged the students to refrain from narcotic drugs and instead partner security organs in the fight against the vice by reporting those involved.<\/p>\n

Eug\u00e9nie Nyiramana, the school head mistress, lauded RNP\u2019s efforts in the fight against drugs particularly in schools.<\/p>\n

Sensitizing students on drug abuse is a vital strategy and I am sure this will help to turn the youth into competent and responsible citizens that will in the end help to develop the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cTeaching the youth on the sorts of drugs is vital to spare them from related ill-effects and prepare them to be good citizens,\u201d she observed.<\/p>\n

She called upon the students to say no to drugs and concentrate on studies which she noted is their primary job.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore, I had no apparent idea on the types of narcotic drugs. I am very happy that Police have shown us the common drugs used.\u201d Said Agustin Wafrika, one of the students while pledging to partner security organs in the campaign against drug abuse.<\/p>\n
