{"id":16113,"date":"2014-09-01T03:24:10","date_gmt":"2014-09-01T03:24:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/mwinyi-urges-adoption-of-swahili-as-regional\/"},"modified":"2014-09-01T03:24:03","modified_gmt":"2014-09-01T03:24:03","slug":"mwinyi-urges-adoption-of-swahili-as-regional","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/mwinyi-urges-adoption-of-swahili-as-regional\/","title":{"rendered":"Mwinyi Urges Adoption of Swahili as Regional Language"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-6818 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/gggfs.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>{{East African countries should revive the use of Kiswahili to ease communication and promote unity, former Tanzania president Ali Hassan Mwinyi has said while in Uganda where he had turned up for the cancer marathon.}}<\/p>\n<p>Mr Mwinyi was speaking yesterday after taking part in the Rotary Cancer Run at Kololo Airstrip, where he was the chief runner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was an East African language committee but unfortunately, this committee was born in Tanzania, fell sick in Kenya and was buried in Uganda,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The former Tanzania president said he was in Uganda to witness the re-birth of the language.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pleased to tell you that I\u2019m in Uganda to witness the re-birth of Swahili and so the next time you invite me, I will address you in that language.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Swahili is already an official language in Tanzania and Kenya where it is spoken by the majority of the population.
