Peacekeepers in Malakal Commended"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{{The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Force Commander, Lieutenant-General Yohannes Gebremeskel Tesfamariam visited Rwanda Defence Forces  (Rwanbatt2 ) peacekeepers deployed in Malakal, Upper  Nile State, in South Sudan on  17 July 2014.}}<\/p>\n<p>According to the RDF Peacekeepers on the ground, the aim of General Yohannes visit,  as a new UNMISS Force Commander, was to familiarise with the Forces deployment and interact with the Peacekeepers.<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, the UNMISS Force commander appreciated the commitment of Rwanda and its contribution in peace keeping operations in different countries. <\/p>\n<p>He particularly commended Rwanbatt2 efforts to creating conducive environment in Malakal within a short time.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cRwanbatt2 patrols in Malakal have created a safer environment and free movement of people in town and its surroundings\u201d, hailed the UNMISS Force commander.<\/p>\n<p> At Rwanbatt2 camp, General Yohannes was welcomed by Rwanbatt2 Commanding Officer Lt Col Lemuel KAYUMBA flanked with his staff officers. <\/p>\n<p>The commanding Officer briefed the Force Commander and his delegation on the battalion   operational activities and on security situation in the area. <\/p>\n<p>The brief was followed by a guided tour in the Rwanbatt2  camp and to Internally Displaced Persons camp under protection of Rwanda Peacekeepers serving under the UNMISS.<\/p>\n<p>The Rwandan battalion (Rwanbatt2) has been deployed in Malakal in Upper Nile Province, some 650 kilometers from Juba, the capital of South Sudan, since 21 May 2014.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-6456 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/mods.jpg\"
