The vehicle was intercepted in Gatore sector; muganza cell Rebero village where area residents informed police for cannabis sacks that was parked by unknown people who came with it on motorcycle. <\/p>\n

They are arrested at Kirehe police station for further investigations.<\/p>\n

The police spokesperson in Eastern region SSP Benoit Nsengiyumva said that the cannabis was transported from Tanzania by motorcycles where the duo had connection with dealers to drive it to Kigali.<\/p>\n

Nsengiyumva says that case file has been opened today where they are going to face Justice. He thanked the area residents for police \u2013partnership that led to the arrest of two. <\/p>\n

He warned the youth, the majority age group involved in this illegal act, trafficking, selling or consumption of illicit drug.<\/p>\n

Nsengiyumva cited some of drugs registered in Rwanda are cannabis and locally brewed that is life threatening.<\/p>\n

{Punishment}<\/p>\n

Article 594 penalizes any person, who consumes, injects, inhales, anoints him\/herself with or makes any other unlawful use of narcotic drugs, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of one to three years and a fine of Rwf50, 000 to Rwf500, 000.<\/p>\n

Any person who unlawfully makes, transforms, imports, or sells narcotic drugs within the country, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of three to five years and a fine of Rwf500, 000 to Rwf5 million.<\/p>\n

If the acts under the preceding paragraph are committed internationally, the penalties are doubled.<\/p>\n
