Testifying for the defence, Wayne Derman, said Pistorius had a deep sense of vulnerability and it was a factor in what he has described as a mistaken shooting. <\/p>\n
But the National Organisation on Disabilities in the US told Yahoo! News that the reasoning is an \u201cexploitation\u201d of the athlete\u2019s \u201cphysical disability to say that it\u2019s linked to some mental health issue that would cause him to commit murder\u201d. <\/p>\n
The group\u2019s president Carol Glazer said if someone is able to win an able-bodied track medal in a world athletics race, then one has \u201cfigured out how to adapt his disability\u201d.<\/p>\n
Glazer said it was unlikely that the same disability would trigger hyper-vigilance in the same person. <\/p>\n
The executive vice president of the American Association of People with Disabilities, Henry Claypoll, said <\/p>\n
He doesn\u2019t believe that Pistorius\u2019s disability can justify the killing of Steenkamp.<\/p>\n
