{"id":14907,"date":"2014-06-09T05:12:19","date_gmt":"2014-06-09T05:12:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/fifa-sponsors-demand-thorough-investigation\/"},"modified":"2014-06-09T05:12:17","modified_gmt":"2014-06-09T05:12:17","slug":"fifa-sponsors-demand-thorough-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/fifa-sponsors-demand-thorough-investigation\/","title":{"rendered":"Fifa Sponsors Demand Thorough Investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{{Fifa is under growing pressure from a number of high-profile sponsors following its controversial decision to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.}}<\/p>\n<p>Sony, Adidas, Coca-Cola, Visa and Hyundai\/Kia want the governing body to conduct an investigation into claims of wrongdoing in the bidding process.<\/p>\n<p>In total, five of Fifa&#8217;s six main sponsors have issued statements relating to the Qatar bid.<br \/>\nOnly airline Emirates has so far declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>Qatar was chosen to host the World Cup in December 2010, beating off competition from Australia, Japan, South Korea and the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Fifa vice-president Jim Boyce has already said he would support a re-vote if allegations of corruption are proven.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the clamour for an investigation, Fifa president Sepp Blatter has called for time.<\/p>\n<p>However, the concerns of a number of high-profile sponsors will increase the pressure on Fifa to act.<\/p>\n<p>German sportswear company Adidas, which has a long-term sponsorship deal with Fifa that runs until 2030, said in a statement: &#8220;The negative tenor of the public debate around Fifa at the moment is neither good for football nor for Fifa and its partners.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Coca-Cola added: &#8220;Anything that detracts from the mission and ideals of the Fifa World Cup is a concern to us.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Car manufacture Kia, which shares sponsorship of the World Cup with affiliate Hyundai, said in a statement: &#8220;We are confident that Fifa is taking these allegations seriously and that the investigatory chamber of the Fifa ethics committee will conduct a thorough investigation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>{agencies}<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{{Fifa is under growing pressure from a number of high-profile sponsors following its controversial decision to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.}} Sony, Adidas, Coca-Cola, Visa and Hyundai\/Kia want the governing body to conduct an investigation into claims of wrongdoing in the bidding process.
