{"id":14407,"date":"2014-05-13T04:33:08","date_gmt":"2014-05-13T04:33:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/rwanda-s-consumer-price-index-up\/"},"modified":"2014-05-13T04:22:44","modified_gmt":"2014-05-13T04:22:44","slug":"rwanda-s-consumer-price-index-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/rwanda-s-consumer-price-index-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwanda&#8217;s Consumer Price Index UP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{{Rwanda&#8217;s Consumer Price Index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, has risen 2.72 percent year on year in April 2014, down from 3.43 percent in March 2014.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2014, \u201cfood and non alcoholic beverages\u201d rose 3.84 percent year on year, while prices of \u201cRestaurants and hotels\u201d moved up 10.42.<\/p>\n<p>Food prices account for about one-third of the CPI weight.<\/p>\n<p>The data also show the \u201clocal goods\u201d increased by 3.09 percent on annual change with a monthly change of +0.76 percent, while prices of the \u201cimported products\u201d increased by 1.20 percent on annual change with a monthly change of +0.18 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The prices of the \u201cfresh products\u201d had a positive annual change of 6.18 percent between April 2014 and April 2013.}}<\/p>\n<p>{{Understanding what Consumer Price Index }}<\/p>\n<p>A consumer price index (CPI) measures changes in the price level of a market basket of consumer goods and services purchased by households.<\/p>\n<p>The CPI is a statistical estimate constructed using the prices of a sample of representative items whose prices are collected periodically. <\/p>\n<p>Sub-indexes and sub-sub-indexes are computed for different categories and sub-categories of goods and services, being combined to produce the overall index with weights reflecting their shares in the total of the consumer expenditures covered by the index. <\/p>\n<p>It is one of several price indicescalculated by most national statistical agencies.
