{"id":140,"date":"2011-05-07T21:04:15","date_gmt":"2011-05-07T21:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/nyabihu-mudslide-kills-14\/"},"modified":"2011-05-07T21:01:52","modified_gmt":"2011-05-07T21:01:52","slug":"nyabihu-mudslide-kills-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/nyabihu-mudslide-kills-14\/","title":{"rendered":"Nyabihu mudslide &#8216;kills 14&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>At least 14 members of the same family have been killed in <span data-scaytid=\"1\" data-scayt_word=\"Nyabihu\">Nyabihu<\/span> district after heavy rains sparked a mudslide that engulfed a small village, local authorities have said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The mudslide struck the village in the <span data-scaytid=\"3\" data-scayt_word=\"Rugera\">Rugera<\/span> Sector on Friday at around <span data-scaytid=\"4\" data-scayt_word=\"4am\">4am<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>At least three homes had been damaged or submerged.<\/p>\n<p>Among those feared dead was a one year old baby.<\/p>\n<p>The <span data-scaytid=\"2\" data-scayt_word=\"Nyabihu\">Nyabihu<\/span> district Vice Mayor Angela <span data-scaytid=\"5\" data-scayt_word=\"Mukaminani\">Mukaminani<\/span> said that authorities had managed to recover 11 bodies.<\/p>\n<p><span data-scaytid=\"6\" data-scayt_word=\"Mukaminani\">Mukaminani<\/span>, said some parts of the area had been evacuated because of the risk of further landslides.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have temporarily relocated residents living near the scene of the accident to avoid more deaths as we intensify the search for those who are suspected to have died,\u201d <span data-scaytid=\"7\" data-scayt_word=\"Mukaminani\">Mukaminani<\/span> said.<\/p>\n<p>The area where the incident occurred is hilly with dotting houses at the foothills.
