According to Belgian press reports, over 36 Rwandans resident in Belgium are being investigated for genocide committed in Rwanda in 1994. <\/p>\n
However, Investigations have been concluded for only seven members as federal prosecutors confirmed Tuesday.<\/p>\n
According to a spokesman for the federal prosecutor, Eric Van Der Sypt it\u2019s unlikely that the files will be reviewed this year, mainly due to the complexity of investigations.<\/p>\n
Nobody has ever been tried for genocide in Belgium. Four trials held between 2001 and 2009 however, led to eight convictions for war crimes or crimes against humanity.<\/p>\n
In France , Pascal Simbikangwa a Rwandan was first sentenced to 25 years in jail on March 14 for his involvement in the genocide of Tutsis, during which a million were killed in a period of three months. <\/p>\n
A former captain of the Rwandan army, Simbikangwa , was sentenced for genocide and complicity in crimes against humanity. However, he decided to appeal.<\/p>\n
