{"id":12863,"date":"2014-03-02T06:26:43","date_gmt":"2014-03-02T06:26:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/kenya-s-inflation-drops-in-february\/"},"modified":"2014-03-02T06:26:16","modified_gmt":"2014-03-02T06:26:16","slug":"kenya-s-inflation-drops-in-february","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/kenya-s-inflation-drops-in-february\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya\u2019s Inflation Drops in February"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{{Overall inflation for the month of February declined to 6.86 percent compared to last month\u2019s 7.21 percent, attributed to drop in the cost of some food prices and electricity.}}<\/p>\n<p>The price of a kilo of sugar dropped by 2.27 percent from Sh114.71 in January to Sh112.12 in February, while the price of a kilo of kales went down by 2.01 percent from Sh45.01 to Sh44.11.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), the average price of a kilo of cooking fat in February was Sh216.41 from Sh217.84 in January representing a 0.66 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The cost of electricity declined by 2.09 percent to Sh515.70 per 50 kilowatt-hours in February compared to Sh526.70 last month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough there was no major change observed in respect of fuel cost adjustment charges to the previous month, slight decreases in forex adjustment and the Water Resources Management levy charges caused a decrease in the cost of electricity,\u201d KNBS stated on Friday in its monthly review.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Transport Index increased by 0.24 percent over the same review period mainly on account of higher prices of petrol, diesel, parking charges as well as public transport fares.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithin Nairobi for instance, parking charges were increased from Sh140 to Sh300 per day,\u201d KNBS said.<\/p>\n<p>During the period under review, Food and Non-Alcoholic Drinks\u2019 Index increased by 0.36 percent.
