{"id":123,"date":"2011-05-05T13:19:01","date_gmt":"2011-05-05T13:19:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/witness-kobayaga-threatened-him-if-he-did-not\/"},"modified":"2011-05-05T13:17:58","modified_gmt":"2011-05-05T13:17:58","slug":"witness-kobayaga-threatened-him-if-he-did-not","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/witness-kobayaga-threatened-him-if-he-did-not\/","title":{"rendered":"Witness: Kobayaga threatened him if he did not kill Tutsis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A Rwandan farmer showed jurors the scar left on his leg by a <span data-scaytid=\"1\" data-scayt_word=\"U.S\">U.S<\/span>. resident he alleges threatened to kill him if he did not kill ethnic <span data-scaytid=\"4\" data-scayt_word=\"Tutsis\">Tutsis<\/span> during the African nation\u2019s 1994 genocide.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Emmanuel <span data-scaytid=\"5\" data-scayt_word=\"Nzabandora\">Nzabandora<\/span> testified Wednesday in the trial of 84-year-old <span data-scaytid=\"7\" data-scayt_word=\"Lazare\">Lazare<\/span> <span data-scaytid=\"8\" data-scayt_word=\"Kobagaya\">Kobagaya<\/span>, of Topeka, on charges of lying to <span data-scaytid=\"2\" data-scayt_word=\"U.S\">U.S<\/span>. immigration officials about his involvement in the ethnic slaughter.<\/p>\n<p><span data-scaytid=\"6\" data-scayt_word=\"Nzabandora\">Nzabandora<\/span> testified two other men had beaten him because he refused to kill. He said <span data-scaytid=\"9\" data-scayt_word=\"Kobagaya\">Kobagaya<\/span> then stabbed him with a knife concealed in a cane. He says he later clubbed a Tutsi man to death while <span data-scaytid=\"10\" data-scayt_word=\"Kobagaya\">Kobagaya<\/span> and others watched.<\/p>\n<p>He also alleged <span data-scaytid=\"11\" data-scayt_word=\"Kobagaya\">Kobagaya<\/span> had earlier offered a man beer to kill a <span data-scaytid=\"12\" data-scayt_word=\"Hutu\">Hutu<\/span> who refused to his Tutsi relatives\u2019 homes. He said that man immediately killed the <span data-scaytid=\"13\" data-scayt_word=\"Hutu\">Hutu<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Kobayaga&#8217;s lawyers want to bar testimony by a Rwandan woman about the killings of her husband and children.<\/p>\n<p>Defense lawyers contend the testimony of Valerie <span data-scaytid=\"15\" data-scayt_word=\"Niyitegeka\">Niyitegeka<\/span> is irrelevant because she wasn\u2019t present when her husband and children were killed. The defense argues the only purpose of her testimony would be to present her heartbreak so the jury will decide the case on emotion.<\/p>\n<p><span data-scaytid=\"3\" data-scayt_word=\"U.S\">U.S<\/span>.
