{"id":12006,"date":"2014-01-06T10:42:36","date_gmt":"2014-01-06T10:42:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/korea-telecom-may-scale-down-rwanda-business\/"},"modified":"2018-11-13T10:44:59","modified_gmt":"2018-11-13T10:44:59","slug":"korea-telecom-may-scale-down-rwanda-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/korea-telecom-may-scale-down-rwanda-business\/","title":{"rendered":"Korea Telecom may scale down Rwanda business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Korea Telecom CEO Hwang Chang-gyu has revealed plans to review the company\u2019s projects across Africa and place greater focus on bolstering the firm\u2019s competitive edge in its domestic telecommunication market.}<\/p>\n<p> According to a Korea Times report, this review will likely result in the scaling down or scrapping of the company\u2019s activities in Rwanda and other countries on the continent.<\/p>\n<p>Under the leadership of outgoing Chairman Lee Suk-chae, Korea\u2019s second-largest mobile carrier signed an agreement in March 2013 to invest $140 million in Rwanda to build a fourth-generation (4G) mobile network that will serve 95 percent of the country\u2019s population.<\/p>\n<p>The investment, however, is being questioned as it takes quite a long time to generate profits. Since signing the agreement, the company has sought to expand its footprint in other countries including Kenya and Uganda. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the key priorities for the upcoming CEO is to recover KT\u2019s telecommunications-related business.
