{"id":119,"date":"2011-05-04T21:01:40","date_gmt":"2011-05-04T21:01:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/rwanda-targets-projects-worth-550m-in-2011\/"},"modified":"2011-05-04T21:06:27","modified_gmt":"2011-05-04T21:06:27","slug":"rwanda-targets-projects-worth-550m-in-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/rwanda-targets-projects-worth-550m-in-2011\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwanda targets projects worth $550m in 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rwanda is targeting investment projects worth $550-million and hopes tourism revenues will rise to $216-million in 2011, officials said on Wednesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Rwanda Development Board (<span data-scaytid=\"1\" data-scayt_word=\"RDB\">RDB<\/span>) said investments projects had increased by 150% in the first quarter of 2011 to $87-million, mainly boosted by the February registration of the <span data-scaytid=\"3\" data-scayt_word=\"Cadilla\">Cadilla<\/span> pharmaceutical company, worth $65-million.<\/p>\n<p>Rwanda was ranked by the World Bank as the country that introduced the most pro-business reforms in 2009, and it came second to Kazakhstan in 2010. The country is pushing hard to attract investment to become a middle-income nation by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The <span data-scaytid=\"2\" data-scayt_word=\"RDB\">RDB<\/span> also said tourism projects registered in the first quarter increased by 32% from the same period a year earlier. It said tourist arrivals jumped 32% to 201 088 while revenues <span data-scaytid=\"4\" data-scayt_word=\"climed\">climed<\/span> to $56,6-million from $43-million.<\/p>\n<p>While its east African <span data-scaytid=\"5\" data-scayt_word=\"neighbours\">neighbours<\/span> Tanzania and Kenya are more renowned tourist destinations, Rwanda is trying to attract more visitors to its mountainous national parks which are home to gorillas.<\/p>\n<p>Rwanda earned $200-million from tourism in 2010.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rwanda is targeting investment projects worth $550-million and hopes tourism revenues will rise to $216-million in 2011, officials said on Wednesday.
