{"id":11317,"date":"2013-11-05T07:54:50","date_gmt":"2013-11-05T07:54:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/dr-congo-army-to-disarm-fdlr-rebels-imminently\/"},"modified":"2013-11-05T07:54:43","modified_gmt":"2013-11-05T07:54:43","slug":"dr-congo-army-to-disarm-fdlr-rebels-imminently","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/dr-congo-army-to-disarm-fdlr-rebels-imminently\/","title":{"rendered":"DR Congo army to disarm FDLR rebels &#8216;imminently&#8217;: Government"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{The Democratic Republic of Congo army plans an &#8220;imminent&#8221; attack on FDLR rebels based in the powder keg east of the country, government spokesman Lambert Mende said on Tuesday.<br \/>\n}<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;There is no more place in our country for any irregular group,&#8221; Mende said, adding that the newly defeated M23 rebels had been &#8220;top of the list&#8221; before their surrender on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p> &#8220;They have been replaced by the FDLR (Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda),&#8221; Mende said. &#8220;We are going to get on with disarming them.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p> Further military action &#8220;will take concrete shape in the offensive that will imminently be launched&#8221; by the army against different armed movements in the east of the vast country, he added. <\/p>\n<p> Tuesday&#8217;s military victory by UN-backed Congolese troops over the mainly rebels of M23 &#8220;does not &#8230; put an end to efforts to normalize our country&#8221;, the spokesman said. <\/p>\n<p>The FDLR has been present on Congolese territory since fleeing across the border from Rwanda in 1994, after committing atrocities during the genocide against Tutsis.
