{"id":11271,"date":"2013-11-03T01:07:20","date_gmt":"2013-11-03T01:07:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/tanzania-threatens-to-pull-out-of-eac\/"},"modified":"2013-11-03T01:06:50","modified_gmt":"2013-11-03T01:06:50","slug":"tanzania-threatens-to-pull-out-of-eac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/tanzania-threatens-to-pull-out-of-eac\/","title":{"rendered":"Tanzania threatens to pull out of EAC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{Tanzania is considering pulling out of the East African Community (EAC), in the face of what political leaders in the country regard as \u201csustained isolation\u201d by Kenya,  Rwanda and Uganda.}<\/p>\n<p>Although there have been simmering tensions between Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete and his Kenya,  Rwanda and Uganda counterparts, on Wednesday Tanzania\u2019s minister for EAC Affairs, Samuel Sitta, confirmed the worst fears.<\/p>\n<p>He told a charged Parliament in Dodoma that Tanzania will not wait for a \u201cdivorce certificate\u201d from Kenya,  Rwanda and Uganda, but will shoot before it is shot.  <\/p>\n<p>The minister spoke on the same day President Uhuru Kenyatta, Paul Kagame of  Rwanda, Uganda\u2019s Yoweri Museveni and Salva Kiir of South Sudan signed a host of protocols and agreements in Kigali, including free movement of goods and persons, infrastructural development and transformation into a single Customs Union.<\/p>\n<p>The pacts were signed on the sidelines of the three-day \u201cTransform Africa Summit\u201d to which Tanzania and Burundi, both EAC member states were not invited.<\/p>\n<p>And Sitta confirmed that not a single Tanzanian minister attended the Kigali event.
