{"id":11025,"date":"2013-10-19T07:43:33","date_gmt":"2013-10-19T07:43:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/rwandan-listed-for-global-innovation-award\/"},"modified":"2013-10-19T07:43:12","modified_gmt":"2013-10-19T07:43:12","slug":"rwandan-listed-for-global-innovation-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/rwandan-listed-for-global-innovation-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwandan Listed For Global Innovation Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{{A Rwandan has been short-listed for an international innovation award for inventing an environmentally-friendly power device.}}<\/p>\n<p>Henry Nyakarundi\u2019s solar-powered device that charges cell phones has been short-listed among 23 projects for the global \u2018Empowering People Awards.\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>The winning project will be announced later this month.<\/p>\n<p>Nyakarundi\u2019s project was selected from the more than 800 entries that were made by individuals and firms from across the world.<\/p>\n<p>According to Rolf Huber, the managing director of Siemens Stiftung, the initiator of the awards, the selection process was conducted by an international jury of experts, based on aspects such as technical quality, environmental impact, social and economic relevancy of the project submitted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur aim is to recognise the most promising technological solutions and products suitable for solving basic problems of ordinary people in developing countries,\u201d Huber is quoted in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The statement adds that voting for finalists will be online and open to public from 90 countries worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>The winner will walk home with  Euro 50,000 (about Rwf45 million), while the first and second runners-up will bag Euro 30,000 (about Rwf27 million and Euro 20,000 (about Rwf18 million), respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty other \u2018best losers\u2019 in the competition will receive Euro 5,000 (about Rwf4.5 million) each.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am glad that at last, four  years of vigorous research and testing to develop this  product have been recognised0,\u201d  Nyakarundi said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, I cant celebrate now because a lot of work still has to be done to go through the final phase, but I am confident.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-3811 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/asd.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>source: {Newtimes}<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{{A Rwandan has been short-listed for an international innovation award for inventing an environmentally-friendly power device.}} Henry Nyakarundi\u2019s solar-powered device that charges cell phones has been short-listed among 23 projects for the global \u2018Empowering People Awards.\u2019 The winning project will be announced later this month.
