The successful operation to intercept the illegal gin was based on the credible information provided by members of the community where these illegal acts were being carried out.<\/p>\n
Police arrested one person in connection with the act.<\/p>\n
Over 400 litres were seized in Burera District.<\/p>\n
The Northern Region Police Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Francis Gahima said they are searching for other individuals in the region suspected to be involved in drug related crimes.<\/p>\n
He said Police also embarked on sensitizing the public about the dangers of drug abuse.<\/p>\n
\u201cDrugs are dangerous to human lives. But the results out of the campaign are positive and the public are keen to fight it,\u201d CSP Gahima explained.<\/p>\n
Article 594 penalises any person, who consumes, injects, inhales, anoints him\/herself with or makes any other unlawful use of narcotic drugs, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of one to three years and a fine of Rwf50, 000 to Rwf500, 000.<\/p>\n
Any person who unlawfully makes, transforms, imports, or sells narcotic drugs within the country, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of three to five years and a fine of Rwf500, 000 to Rwf5 million.<\/p>\n
