{"id":10441,"date":"2013-09-17T06:15:31","date_gmt":"2013-09-17T06:15:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/rwanda-scoops-11-out-of-20-taekwondo-medals\/"},"modified":"2013-09-17T06:13:44","modified_gmt":"2013-09-17T06:13:44","slug":"rwanda-scoops-11-out-of-20-taekwondo-medals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.igihe.com\/english\/rwanda-scoops-11-out-of-20-taekwondo-medals\/","title":{"rendered":"Rwanda Scoops 11 out of 20 Taekwondo Medals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{{Rwandans won 11 out of 20 medals dominating the inaugural regional Taekwondo tournament dubbed \u2018Ambassador\u2019s Cup\u2019 that took place over the weekend at Amahoro indoor stadium in Kigali. }}<\/p>\n<p>Burundi, DR Congo, Kenya and Uganda participated in the two-day tournament.<\/p>\n<p> 170 players took part in the competition, more than a half of them from Rwanda.<\/p>\n<p>The competition saw fighters divided into categories according their weights; Featherweight (-68kgs), Bantam (-63kgs), Fly (-58kgs) and Fin (-54kgs).<\/p>\n<p>The Rwanda Taekwondo Federation Secretary General, Placide Bagabo, who also won a medal in the men\u2019s Bantam (-63kgs) category, told Times Sport, \u201cThis tournament represents a very important step forward for Rwandan Taekwondo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe tournament was very tough, all countries brought competitive athletes but we prepared well enough and our hard work paid off,\u201d Bagabo added.<\/p>\n<p>Rwanda won three of the four categories; men\u2019s adult category and both junior categories (boys and girls) while Kenya dominated the women\u2019s category.<\/p>\n<p>Team Ugandan won the fair play award, while upcoming team award went to Burundi, with Kenya winning the most disciplined team award.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"spip-document spip-document-3592 aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/en-images.igihe.com\/jpg\/xb-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>source:Newtimes<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{{Rwandans won 11 out of 20 medals dominating the inaugural regional Taekwondo tournament dubbed \u2018Ambassador\u2019s Cup\u2019 that took place over the weekend at Amahoro indoor stadium in Kigali. }} Burundi, DR Congo, Kenya and Uganda participated in the two-day tournament. 170 players took part in the competition, more than a half of them from Rwanda.
