{{Tanzania has finally bowed to Kigali\u2019s demands to lower the road toll on Rwanda\u2019s trucks heading into the country.}}<\/p>\n
The move came after negotiations in Kampala on Tuesday between Finance Minister William Mgimwa and his Rwandese counterpart, Mr Claver Gatete.<\/p>\n
Dr Mgimwa told media that the government had lowered the rate to $152 from the previous $500 per truck.<\/p>\n
He explained: \u201cWe finally realised that if we stuck to our guns, Tanzania was likely to suffer because our colleagues have fewer vehicles entering our country compared to our trucks headed for Rwanda.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr Mgimwa said he had sent Mr Gatete a letter confirming the new rates.<\/p>\n
The Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) commissioner general, Mr Ben Kagarama, confirmed that Kigali had received Dr Mgimwa\u2019s letter.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have just been informed by my minister that the rates have been lowered and we have also decided to opt for the old charges as well,\u201d said the RRA boss. \u201cWe have cancelled the new rates that came into effect on September 1.<\/p>\n
