The President of the Constitutional Council of Algeria, Mourad Medelci, on Monday hailed the evolution of African constitutional law, saying it adds to other achievements in the areas of peace, security and democracy.
Medelci made the remark at the opening of the conference on ‘The evolution of constitutional law in Africa.”
‘These performances have become a tangible reality today and help create significant mobilizing conditions in establishing a culture of human rights,’ he said.
The President of the Conference of African Constitutional Courts, Theodore Holo, who is also President of the Constitutional Council of Benin, said that the Algerian Constitutional Council was committed to strengthening regional and international cooperation in constitutional matters, thanks to its ability to quickly assess the importance of democracy in the economic development of the African continent.
He praised the role of Algeria in strengthening the unity of Arab and African constitutional bodies. The Conference is being attended by the presidents of the Constitutional Councils and similar institutions which are members of the Conference of African constitutional courts. African professors specializing in constitutional law from Algeria, South Africa, Tunisia, Nigeria, Senegal, Benin and Gabon are also taking part in the meeting that will end on Tuesday.
