    Rubavu residents lament over Nyakatsi houses

    {Rubavu residents living in grass-thatched houses (Nyakatsi) have requested government to support them in the establishment of better shelter and improve their livelihoods, an intervention local leaders say will be implemented in 2016.}

    Some residents of Nyabikonki cell in Kanzenze sector still reside in tents, houses roofed with thatch while others live in houses whose roofs are made of old tiles with straw for walls.

    Talking to the media recently, the residents said that local government officials are aware of their plight but have not been helpful in supporting them.

    “I hired a tent when my house was destroyed since I was unable to build another good house like others. Authorities know my case even though they haven’t been of much help,” said one of the residents.

    “I have lived in this Nyakatsi for five years. I have no capacity to build an iron-roofed house. Local leaders have not provided any support,” said another resident.

    The executive secretary of Kanzenze sector , Haguma Pascal confirms that the matter is well known and promised that residents living in Nyakatsi will benefit from newly constructed houses not later than January 2016.

    “We have planned to build their houses through community work. Old fashioned houses will be history by January 2016,”he said.

    The program of eradicating Nyakatsi across the country was launched in 2010.

    FARG and the ministry of local government have agreed to deliver the fund in accordance with the will of beneficiaries.

    Vulnerable Genocide survivors are divided into two categories where the most vulnerable receive Rwf 30,000 while others receive Rwf 7,500 per month, including genocide widows, disabled genocide survivors and others living with chronicle ailments.

    7 things most women look for in a man before falling for him

    {A lot of women have what they look for in a man, and to many, not that he has to tick all the boxes, but he has to at least tick some of them.
    }

    Sometimes, women are unconsciously endeared to certain traits in a man and they don’t even know.

    It’s a fact that no woman would fall for any kind of man. So what traits do you think women consciously or unconsciously look for in a man?

    {{1. A MAN WITH A GOOD JOB}}

    Truth be told, most women want a man with a high paying job, or an average paying job at least with hope for a better pay in the near future. Money comes with security and it makes things easier — which woman wouldn’t want breakfast in bed while having a vacation in a private island?

    Truth be told, the money factor cannot be forgotten.
    {{
    2. A MAN THAT’S SURE OF HIMSELF}}

    This is one trait almost every woman consciously or unconsciously looks for in a man. You might call it confidence or self-belief, but one thing is for sure — this trait makes a man look almost perfect in the eyes of a lady.

    {{3. A MAN WITH A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOUR}}

    Various researches have consistently put this as one of those things that make women fall for a guy. A man that can consistently put a smile on a lady’s face is halfway close to winning her heart.
    {{
    4. A MAN THAT WOULD MAKE HER FEEL COMFORTABLE}}

    Sometimes, it boils down to how she feels when with you. If she feels comfortable when with you, it’s easier to win her heart from then onwards.

    {{5. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF}}

    No woman wants a messy man; to varying degrees, women want a man that’s well groomed and properly taken care of. Be neat, look good and it would be easier for her to fall for you. Even if you can’t be as classy as the likes of David Beckham, women would still fall for you.

    {{6. A MAN WITH GOOD CONVERSATION SKILLS}}

    This is another trait that makes women unconsciously fall for a man. Good conversation entails knowing how to talk and how to listen, and this would sort of create that harmony between a man and a lady that would make her become attracted to him. Also, with conversations, you get to learn more about a person; most men who are good in conversation sell themselves to most women they come across.
    {{
    7. A MAN WHO OTHER PEOPLE RESPECT}}

    Earn the respect of people and she would be more attracted to you. The subconscious reading to this is that she knows she would be well respected too if she becomes your lady, and that’s probably the reason why many well-respected men are adored by women.

    Living happily in a material world: Material purchases can bring happiness

    {Researchers have shown that material purchases, from sweaters to skateboards, provide more frequent happiness over time, whereas experiential purchases, like a trip to the zoo, provide more intense happiness on individual occasions. }

    With holiday shopping season in full swing, everyone’s looking for the perfect gift. For those who like to shop, there’s good news: Material things can bring happiness. In a recent study from the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science, researchers have shown that material purchases, from sweaters to skateboards, provide more frequent happiness over time, whereas experiential purchases, like a trip to the zoo, provide more intense happiness on individual occasions.

    The majority of previous studies examining material and experiential purchases and happiness focused on what people anticipated about shopping or remembered about items and experiences. The University of British Columbia’s Aaron Weidman and Elizabeth Dunn wanted to know how people felt in the moment, say the first weeks with a new sweater or tablet computer. To answer this question, they assessed the real-time, momentary happiness people got from material and experiential purchases, up to five times per day for two weeks. Material purchases consisted of items such as reindeer leggings, portable speakers, or coffee makers, and examples of experiential purchases were a weekend ski trip, tickets to a hockey game, or spa gift cards.

    By having people record their thoughts in the weeks following their purchases, as well as one month after their purchases, the researchers showed that material and experiential purchases bring happiness in two distinct flavors. Material purchases bring repeated doses of happiness over time in the weeks after they are bought, whereas experiential purchases offer a more intense but fleeting dose of happiness. Additionally, when people looked back on their purchases 6 weeks after Christmas, they felt more satisfaction about experiential purchases.

    “The decision of whether to buy a material thing or a life experience may therefore boil down to what kind of happiness one desires,” says Mr. Weidman, “Consider a holiday shopper deciding between tickets to a concert or a new couch in the living room. The concert will provide an intense thrill for one spectacular night, but then it will end, and will no longer provide momentary happiness, aside from being a happy memory. In contrast, the new couch will never provide a thrilling moment to match the concert, but will keep the owner snug and comfortable each day throughout the winter months.”

    As you go forth in your holiday shopping this season, either for yourself or others, think about what form of happiness you want, before making a purchase.

     Material and experiential purchases bring happiness in two distinct flavors.

    {{

  • 7 things every woman should do before having kids

    7 things every woman should do before having kids

    {Things somehow become different when kids step into the picture; responsibilities increase and affection becomes diversified — and yes, it’s a good thing — the home feels more complete with kids in the picture.}

    However, there are certain things every woman should do before having kids with her man.

    {{1. HAVE LOTS OF FUN WITH YOUR PARTNER}}

    You would be surprised at how busy and preoccupied you would be once you start having kids, and this could mean little or no time to have fun, till your kids start growing older.

    So if you are newly married to your partner and yet to have kids, it’s best to have all the fun you can with your partner — this is actually the time for that.
    {{
    2. HAVE A LONE TIME}}

    A lone time is a time dedicated to yourself to probably relax, clear your head or do things you love to do. Create that lone time for yourself, and what you do with it is up to you. This is a time you would actually value because once you start having kids, you might not get that much opportunity again.
    {{
    3. FOCUS ON YOUR CAREER}}

    If you are a career person then this is a time to focus on your career. Give your career a boost during this period and do your best to give it a push as much as you can. There is no better time to focus on your career than now.

    {{4. WORK OUT}}

    Yes, you read that right. It’s amazing that many women don’t work out at this stage of their life when they are single or yet to have kids. Work out and be in great shape; you would be grateful you once looked your best, and pictures of your old self might be a boost when you see yourself losing shape after kids.
    {{
    5. SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH PEOPLE YOU CARE ABOUT}}

    It would be nice to spend time with your mum, dad, friends and those dear to you. Those moments would become priceless because you would be surprised at how less time you would be able to spend with them later in future.

    {{6. VISIT NEW PLACES}}

    Explore, travel, visit new places. You have the time to do it now, so do it. Visiting new places would boost your mind and creativity in life, and you would most definitely learn new things.
    {{
    7. BUILD A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR MAN}}

    Rather than quarrelling and fighting all the time, this is the best time to build a solid relationship and rapport with your man. When the relationship is solid at this stage, it would be easier to maintain it when kids start coming. But if the relationship is shaky at this stage then it could get worse if care isn’t taken.

    How much do you know about Christmas ? 10 mind-blowing facts you probably didn’t know about the most popular holiday in the world

    {Hey there, it’s Christmas again, and I just want to wish you a fabulous holiday season. So much has been said about this holiday; some of them right and some wrong, hence the need for us to put this out there, so we know exactly what is true about Christmas.}

    What most people know about Christmas is that it is a day to mark the birth of Jesus Christ, the leader of Christians around the world, and while this is true, it is not the whole truth. There is a lot more to Christmas than a lot of people know, as you’ll find out in this post, so sit back, relax and check out some incredible facts about Christmas you most likely didn’t know.

    {{1. THE REASON FOR THE SEASON}}

    It is widely believed among people (especially Christians) that Dec 25 marks the birth of Jesus Christ, hence the day is celebrated each year, however, it is important to note that there is no mention of this in the Bible, which casts doubt as to whether he was actually born on Dec 25. In fact, a school of thought believes that Jesus was born sometime in spring. Some believers do not celebrate Christmas for this reason. However, there’s strong belief that Christians of old just chose a random date to mark the birth of their saviour, since no one really knows when he was born. Well, at least, he’s celebrated. That’s what’s more important, isn’t it?
    {{
    2. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS:}}

    Those colorful little bulbs were invented in 1882 by a man called Edward Johnson.
    {{
    3. WORLD’S BIGGEST SNOWMAN}}

    The snowman is one of the many symbols for Christmas, and the biggest (tallest) one found anywhere in the world today is located in a town called Bethel, in Maine, U.S.A. The figure is about 122 ft 1 inch tall.
    {{
    4. XMAS}}

    The word ‘Xmas’ is an ancient word for Christmas, which dates as far back as the 1500s. The X” comes from the Greek letter ‘Chi’, which is the first letter of the Greek word ‘Χριστός’ which comes into English as “Christ”. And ‘Mas’ is the Latin equivalent for the English word, ‘Mass’. Now, you know why it’s called Xmas.
    {{
    5. WORLDS MOST EXPENSIVE CHRISTMAS TREE}}

    The world’s most expensive Christmas tree is located at the Emirates palace hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The giant tree which is about 40 feet tall is said to cost about $11.4 million, and is decorated with about 181 precious stones.
    {{
    6. SANTA’S RED SUIT
    }}

    A lot of us grew up to know the Christmas fairy in a red suit, and can you blame us? Not many of us lived before 1930 Lol. Before he settled for the color red, Santa had tried green, blue and white. He settled for red after appearing in an ad by coca cola in 1930. He must have liked it!
    {{
    7. CHRISTMAS SONGS}}

    ‘Silent night’ is the most covered Christmas song ever, with about 733 different versions. The original version was recorded by Franz Xaver Gruber in 1818, and has since been translated into 140 different languages.
    {{
    8. CHRISTMAS AND RELATIONSHIPS}}

    According to a data gotten off Facebook, 2 weeks to Christmas is the commonest time for couples in a relationship to break up, and Christmas day is the least favorite day for couples to part ways. Why is this so? Your guess is as good as mine.
    {{
    9. CHRISTMAS CARDS}}

    The first Christmas card was made in England on December 9, 1842.
    {{
    10. JESUS’ ACTUAL BIRTHPLACE}}

    According to Bible scholars, it is believed that Jesus Christ was not born in a wooden stable as most think. Animals were not kept in wooden stables back then, they were kept in caves because of the heat. So, he was actually born in a cave, not a stable. The other argument used to support this claim is that during Jesus’ days, carpenters were known to cut stone because wood wasn’t widely used as is the case in modern times.

    Money can’t buy love but it can buy happiness, finds study

    {Science believes you can buy happiness.}

    A University of British Columbia study suggests purchasing material goods would make us more happy over a period of time compared to the happiness we get from an experience.

    Daily Mail reports the researchers as saying experiences provide intense feelings that will eventually fade but material things remind a person about the happiness they felt when they first received it.

    Aaron Weidman, one of the researchers explained: “The decision of whether to buy a material thing or a life experience may therefore boil down to what kind of happiness one desire.

    “Consider a holiday shopper deciding between tickets to a concert or a new couch in the living room.

    “The concert will provide an intense thrill for one spectacular night but then it will end, and will no longer provide momentary happiness, aside from being a happy memory.

  • 6 reasons why you don’t dream big

    6 reasons why you don’t dream big

    {We all have what it takes to dream big, but more often than not you find that people choose to have small dreams, little goals and small expectations.}

    Why do you think you don’t dream big?

    {{1. Fear that it may not come true}}

    Most people dream little dreams because they believe it’s much easier for the little ones to come true than the big ones. Due to this thought pattern that the dream may not come true, many keep their dream in check and rather settle for less.
    {{
    2. Low self-belief}}

    Another reason many would rather not dream big is because they have low belief in themselves, so they rather settle for less. When you see yourself as little, you can hardly ever surpass that.
    {{
    3. Not ready to take risks}}

    Every big dream requires huge risks; big dreamers are risk takers, and people who are scared of taking risks would rather dream little dreams.
    {{
    4. Not ready to put in the required efforts}}

    Big dreams require big sacrifices and many people are reluctant to put in the hard work, determination, sacrifice, time and energy to chase those dreams, so they settle for a lesser dream with lesser efforts. Behind every accomplished dream you see takes years or at least months of dedication, determination, drive and efforts.

    {{5. Because they don’t really have a clear dream}}

    Not everyone really has a clear dream; many don’t know what to do or what they have a passion for, so they don’t even know what to dream of. While many get to have dreams and goals from a young age, some have it when they are much older and mature and many don’t even have dreams till they are old.

    If found in this last group of people, the way forward is learning a skill in something that you would like or in something you notice that you can easily do — from there, you can develop a passion and set goals for yourself.
    {{
    6. Scared of failure}}

    The fear of failure is another reason many people don’t dream big dreams. You can never be successful if you let fear overwhelm you. Fear tells you it’s impossible and gives you reasons why it isn’t possible — many people have this fear in their head and that’s why they would rather dream small dreams.

    A quote by Michelangelo reads: “The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.”

    Why don’t you come out of the shell of little dreams today?
