    Former BBA Stars Hint on Marriage

    {{Former Big Brother Africa housemate O’neal has reaffirmed that he racked up a ‘lifetime’ treasure – Tanzanian lass, Feza, during the reality show and has hinted at marriage.}}

    This comes a few weeks after he told journalists in Botswana not to group his union with Feza with failed Big Brother relationships, stressing Feza was his ‘life partner’.

    Feza was recently in Botswana and only left last week with social media buzz swelling that the couple was already engaged.

    Although the club and radio DJ O’neal denied they were already betrothed, he said they were both convinced their union was based on solid foundations and would last the lap.

    He added: “I think I did my best in the game and am actually one of the winners in the game, having met the love of my life. She makes me happy so I don’t think there’s any prize bigger than this.”

    In one of her interviews in Botswana, Feza concurred with her prospective hubby that the union was built on ‘solid foundation’.

    “We are both deeply rooted in God and all decisions are informed by a higher being,” she said.

    While O’neal is thrilled that Feza’s four-year-old son has a strong liking for him, he is a little cautious about how their children would handle the relationship.

    His seven-year-old son is also aware of his relationship.

    “For them, it’s exciting because there is so much excitement, it’s not boring. They are just enjoying the attention. But we have to be able to protect them. They didn’t ask for this. We’ll keep them out of it and handle it as much as possible,” he said.

    Evidently, the two are riding on the crest of a wave of love, at least for now.

    Only time will tell if the relationship is for keeps.

  • Jewels from 1966 Air India Crash Found on Mont Blanc

    Jewels from 1966 Air India Crash Found on Mont Blanc

    {{A French climber scaling a glacier off Mont Blanc got more than satisfaction for his efforts when he stumbled across a treasure trove of emeralds, rubies and sapphires that had been buried for decades.}}

    The jewels, estimated to be worth up to 246,000 euros ($332,000), lay hidden in a metal box that was on board an Indian plane that crashed in the desolate landscape some 50 years ago.

    The climber turned the haul in to local police.

    “This was an honest young man who very quickly realised that they belonged to someone who died on the glacier,” local gendarmerie chief Sylvain Merly told AFP.

    “He could have kept them but he preferred to give them to the police,” Merly said, adding that the climber stumbled upon the box earlier this month and that some of the sachets containing the precious stones bore the stamp ‘Made in India.’

    French authorities are contacting their Indian counterparts to trace the owner or heirs of the jewels.

    Under French law, the jewellery could be handed over to the mountaineer if these are not identified, Merly said.

    Two Air India planes crashed into Mont Blanc in 1950 and in 1966. Climbers routinely find debris, baggage and human remains.

    In September last year, India took possession of a bag of diplomatic mail from the Kangchenjunga, a Boeing 707 flying from Mumbai which crashed on the southwest face of Mont Blanc on January 24, 1966.

    The crash killed 117 people including the pioneer of India’s nuclear programme Homi Jehangir Bhabha.

  • Organizers of Miss Wolrds Insist Contestants Appear in Their Own Hair

    Organizers of Miss Wolrds Insist Contestants Appear in Their Own Hair

    {{The organizers of an international beauty pageant, Miss Worlds, have insisted that contestants in the pageant compete in their own hair.}}

    Nigerian beauty pageant organizers have denounced this new rule as racist while a former Nigerian beauty queen has described it as a wicked ploy to make it impossible for Africans, most especially Nigerians, to win the crown.

    A spokesperson for the international pageant revealed that judges already penalize contestants who have obviously undergone plastic surgery, thus it is only fair to also penalize contestants who fix other people’s hair to their heads during competition.

    In a move that threatens to provoke further outrage, it is believed that the organizers are considering asking contestants of a certain race to provide childhood pictures to prove that their skins have not undergone any lightening procedures.

  • Kigali Hosts Diner en Blanc

    Kigali Hosts Diner en Blanc

    {{On August 11th, 2012 Rwanda became the first African country to host a Dîner en Blanc® – a pop-up dining event that features guests arriving at a secret location to participate in an outdoor picnic in the middle of a busy city. }}

    In 2012, 375 guests participated in Kigali’s first Dîner en Blanc® and history was made.

    On September 14 2013, Illume Creative Studio hosted the 2nd Dîner en Blanc® -Kigali which boasted over 600 guests all dining under the twinkling lights right in the middle of Kigali on a street between RDB and Tele10.

    Guests for Dîner en Blanc® were specifically invited by the organizers to attend this unique event, and they recommended their friends to be invited as well.

    The guest list included non-Kigali residents, including participants visiting from Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, the United States, and India.

    Guests were required to follow the Dîner en Blanc® rules in order to ensure a wonderful evening and all participants were required to wear all white and bring their own table settings and table décor.

    Participants were told to meet at one of seven different pick-up points around the city and were taken by Kigali Bus Service (KBS) buses to the main venue.

    The location remained a secret to ensure all guests arrived at the same time. Once there, guests descended from the buses and were greeted with French music and welcoming hosts.

    They then located and set up their tables, and immediately began decorating them and laying out their food which they brought themselves or purchased in advance from participating restaurants and food service providers Shokola Lite, Food and Stuff, Lalibela, Indian Chef, and Mosaic.

    The highlights of the evening included a wonderful and memorable live performance by The Mico Bandand prizes for Best Table, Best Volunteer, Most Elegant, and Most Creative (provided by Serena Hotels, The Manor Hotel, Hotel des Mille Collines, MTN, RDB, and Gemeya).

    A raffle was also held and prizes included a helicopter trip over Akagera Park for two couples, courtesy of Akagera Aviation and a grand prize of a trip for two with two nights’ accommodation to Lake Muvino Lodge in Tanzania, courtesy of Rwandair and Serena Hotels.

    The biggest highlight of the evening, however, was the creativity and innovation all participants put into making the event as beautiful and magical as possible.

    Tables featured one-of-a-kind original art work, a wide variety of food from all over the world, and unique and original themes. After dining, DJ Toxxyk played an eclectic blend of music that had all participants out of their seats dancing, taking photographs, and meeting new people.

    The event was facilitated by participation and encouragement of the City of Kigali, the Rwanda Development Board, the Rwanda National Police, the Kigali Bus Service, the Ministry of Natural Resources (MINIRENA), the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA), and would not have been possible without the following sponsors: Positive Production, KK Security, SORAS, Serena Hotels, Rwandair, Akagera Aviation, Hotel des Mille Collines, IGIHE, The Manor Hotel, MTN, RDB, Gemeya, and Tele10/TV 10.

    ‘Forest Boy’ Found After 16 years in Wilderness

    {{Russian authorities have found a young man living alone in a Siberian forest after having apparently spent most of his life living there in a hut with his parents, local officials said Tuesday.}}

    Locals near the town of Belokurikha found the man, who told the local prosecutor that he was born in 1993 and had lived in the forest since 1997, when his family decided to leave society.

    But his parents left him alone in the hut in May before he finally went to a nearby village to ask for help when the summer ended, the authorities said.

    The local prosecutor’s office, alarmed that the man may have to spend the Siberian winter in a forest by himself, appealed in court to have his identification documents reestablished so that he can seek seek state support, prosecutor Roman Fomin told reporters.

    “I am not sure if he needs all this attention,” he said. “He looked normal and healthy, he only spoke slowly, since he doesn’t communicate as often as most people.”

    He said that the man’s family went to live in the wild as a conscious decision, but apparently not for religious reasons. “They are not religious people,” he said.

    “He was just afraid that he won’t survive the winter without his parents,” Fomin said. “But maybe they have already come back.”

    Fomin said that a local woman had brought the young man to the prosecutors out of fear that he may need help through the cold winter, but the man then had gone back to his hiding place in the forest.

    The Russian media are variously calling him “forest boy” or the “Siberian Mowgli,” after the main character in Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book.”

    Belokurikha is a well-known resort area in Russia’s picturesque Altai region in south Siberia, known for mineral springs, health spas, and skiing.

  • ‘Too fat’ S African in NZ visa reprieve

    ‘Too fat’ S African in NZ visa reprieve

    {{A South African man facing deportation from New Zealand for being too fat has been given a 23-month reprieve.}}

    However, Albert Buitenhuis will not be allowed any publicly-funded healthcare, a government official said.

    The chef, who weighs 130kg (20st 6lb), appealed two months ago after his work visa renewal application was rejected on the grounds he did not have “an acceptable standard of health”.

    He has shed 30kg since he moved to the city of Christchurch six years ago.

    Associate Immigration Minister Nikki Kaye said the main reason Mr Buitenhuis’s application had been declined was due to the osteoarthritis in his knee.

    However, she granted Mr Buitenhuis and his wife, Marthie, visa extensions but said he would “have to meet any health costs himself”.

    Mr Buitenhuis, who wrote about his experiences in a blog called The Too Fat Chef, told local media that the government’s decision was “bitter sweet”.

    “Of course, we are pleased and relieved that we are now able to stay. But at the same time we would rather rewind so that none of this took place,” he said in an interview with Fairfax media.

    “We are really starting from scratch again. We have lost thousands of dollars fighting this and we don’t know where we will live because our home is gone. I am glad the fight is over but I am still afraid of what lies ahead.”

    Mr Buitenhuis, who is 1.78m tall, said he aims to lose another 25kg over the next few months.

    New Zealand has one of the highest obesity rates in the developed world, with nearly 30% of people overweight.

  • Namibian Bags $300,000 Big Brother Africa Cash

    {{Namibia’s Dillish Mathews kept out of trouble and avoided controversy to bag $300,000 as the winner of this year’s Big Brother Africa reality television show.}}

    The 22-year-old Namibian had been an underdog, seemingly content to be cool as her fellow housemates lit up the show, dubbed The Chase, with all manner of shenanigans.

    Her unremarkable strategy initially earned her epithets from her competitors including being accused of not pulling her weight.

    “That girl thinks she’s in a 5 star hotel. She just sleeps all day, does absolutely nothing and expects us to cook for her,” Kenya’s Huddah had said in May.

    Interestingly the Windhoek-born third-year Psychology student had in her biography said she dislikes those who are lazy.

    But the Namibian soon won over her housemates, maintaining cordial relations with most.

    A favourite was her ‘Princess Dillish’ act, which was presented as a quirky and accented alter ego.

    {{Prize money}}

    The first Namibian to win the show, Dillish broke down in tears as soon as she was announced the winner in the grand finale on Sunday night.

    She won five of the 15 country votes, while four other contestants split the other votes.

    She describes herself as “caring, fun, troublesome, loving and adventurous”.

    Her best quality is the fact that she’s “very real and straightforward,” she said, according to her profile on dstv.com.

    She becomes the second woman to win since Zambia’s Cherise won it seven years ago.

    The popular show has often courted controversy over what critics say is the encouraging of questionable morals among African youth.

    That has not stopped politicians weighing in, with Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe giving his country’s representative to the 2010 show, Munyaradzi Chidzonga. $300,000 as “compensatory” prize money.

    Zimbabweans had felt Munyaradzi was robbed of victory. The eventual winner, Nigeria’s Uti, picked up $200,000 from the show organisers.

    Mr Mugabe also topped up the winnings of the 2011 co-winner, Wendall Parson, with $50,000.

    South Africa’s Keagan Petersen won last year’s show.
