    Dentist Wants to Clone John Lennon

    {{A dentist wants to make a clone of John Lennon.

    Michael Zuk purchased a tooth belonging to the late star – who was a member of legendary rock band The Beatles – at an auction for $33 000 and is hoping to extract enough DNA to be able create a clone. }}

    Speaking on Channel 4’s Dead Famous DNA, he explained: ”If there is enough DNA to sequence it, it could be basically genetic real estate.

    ”My aim is to own John Lennon’s DNA.”

    Dr Zuk revealed that once cloning technology is advanced enough to replicate a human, he plans to use the molar to clone the deceased singer and will then raise him as his own child.

    He said: ”He could be looked at as my son… He would still be his exact duplicate but you know, hopefully keep him away from drugs and cigarettes, that kind of thing.

    ”But you know, guitar lessons wouldn’t hurt anyone right?’

  • ‘A Good Man In Rwanda’ Documentary on Rwanda Genocide

    ‘A Good Man In Rwanda’ Documentary on Rwanda Genocide

    {{‘{A Good Man In Rwanda’ } – is a BBC documentary. Journalist Mark Doyle tells the story of one of the unsung heroes of Rwanda’s genocide, Mbaye Diagne.}}

    On 7 April 1994 this Senegalese captain, working with the UN’s peacekeeping mission in Kigali, helped save the lives of five children.

    They were the children of Rwanda’s moderate Hutu Prime Minister, Agathe Uwilingiyimana, who had just been murdered by Hutu extremists.

    Mbaye Diagne was to carry out many further acts of heroism during the genocide, which claimed the lives of well over a million people, mainly ethnic Tutsis.

    Most were bludgeoned and hacked to death with clubs and machetes at the behest of the Hutu government that had just taken power.

    A larger than life character with a ready smile, Mbaye Diagne had a knack of humouring the Interahamwe militia at checkpoints. He saved hundreds of Tutsi’s and did so at great personal risk.

    Time and again he smuggled scores of Tutsis to the relative safety of the Hotel des Mille Collines in the centre of Kigali.

    Mark Doyle got to know Mbaye Diagne when he was reporting on the genocide for the BBC and even credits him with saving his own life at a checkpoint when he was threatened by a militiaman armed with a grenade.

    In A Good Man In Rwanda, Doyle travels to Rwanda, Senegal and Canada to meet the people who knew Mbaye Diagne.

    He meets the man who commanded the UN peace-keeping force, General Romeo Dallaire; he meets his wife and one of closest comrades in arms and he meets the people whose lives he saved – some of whom have never told their stories before.

    “I saw evil in Rwanda in 1994,” says Mark Doyle, “but I also saw extraordinary acts of courage by people who simply knew what was right and what was wrong.

    Mbaye Diagne was just such a person – a good man in Rwanda.” Watch excerpts of the documentary.

  • Hollywood to Produce Movie on Missing Malaysian Jet

    Hollywood to Produce Movie on Missing Malaysian Jet

    {{While the Australian military continue to search the southern Indian Ocean for the wreckage of the missing Malaysia Airlines plane, producers in Hollywood are already working on a possible movie adaptation of the tragic crash. }}

    Although no studio has been pitched about a Flight 370 project, one movie-industry producer told the Hollywood Reporter that he doesn’t doubt at least 50 projects are being developed.

    ‘It’s a shocking tragedy, but even so, I guarantee there are 50 different people working on 50 different projects that are neither inspired by it or based directly on it right now,’ said J.C. Sping, the executive who produced airline thriller Red Eye.

    Tragic: The scant news on the missing flight has caused heartache for the families of the 239 on board. Above, a family member breaks down as she is removed from a press conference on March 19

    While Hollywood may be starting the gears on an adaptation, it’s still unlikely that a film about the disaster will be in theaters anytime soon.

    It took five years for any major motion picture to be released following 9/11, with Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center and Paul Greengrass’ United 93.

    There is a project in development about the Boston Marathon bombings, but Boston Strong wasn’t pitched until three months after the deadly explosions.

    Emotions surrounding the missing flight are so high that a movie that was in production before 370 disappeared has been postponed because the plot closely mirrors the news story.

    Australian production ‘Deep Water’ follows the surviving crew and passengers of a plane that crashes in the ocean on a flight from Sydney to Beijing.

    Time: Hollywood usually waits to release films based on real-life tragedies, as evidenced by the five years it took to produce Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center and Paul Greengrass’ United 93 after 9/11

    But the biggest impediment to any project is that details are still scant about what caused the plane to go off course and crash into the sea.

    Until those details emerge, a true-life script will have to wait.

    ‘I think people will wait to see how [the investigation] turns out,’ said says Alex Heineman, who produced this year’s airline thriller Non-Stop starring Liam Neeson. ‘They say truth is stranger than fiction, and this story is so bizarre.

    No one knows what happened — or maybe people do, and they’re not saying what happened.’

    But even Heineman admits that a story like this is off-limits to a lot of producers in Hollywood.

    ‘I wouldn’t chase a story like this — a true-life disaster story — because it’s sad, and I don’t want to be exploiting that kind of situation,’ he said.

    Producers will also have to wait for more details to emerge on what caused the flight to crash. It’s still uncertain whether the flight was an accident or a possible hijacking or pilot suicide.

  • Madonna To Direct Her Third Film

    Madonna To Direct Her Third Film

    {{Madonna is to direct her third film, an adaptation of Rebecca Walker’s debut novel Ade: A Love Story.}}

    It tells the story of an American student who falls in love with a young Muslim man on an idyllic island off the coast of Kenya before the clash of cultures complicates the relationship.

    Walker, daughter of The Color Purple author Alice, will co-produce the film.

    Madonna, whose previous films were WE and Filth and Wisdom, called the book “an incredible journey” last year.

    After it was published in October, the pop star posted a photo of the book cover and the message: “Read this book! An incredible journey! A beautiful LOVE story!”

    The romance will be co-produced by Bruce Cohen, who produced Silver Linings Playbook and American Beauty.

    Madonna and the producers are now searching for a screenwriter to adapt the book, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

    Madonna’s last film was WE, about the relationship between Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, which opened to several one-star reviews in the UK in 2011.

    The Hollywood Reporter said WE grossed a relatively low $583,000 at the US box office. It failed to make the top 10 in the UK.

    Since WE, Madonna has concentrated on her music career, with a number one album MDNA and huge world tour. She was named the world’s top-earning celebrity by Forbes in 2013.

    The 55-year-old trumped the likes of Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg to make an estimated $125m from a combination of music, clothing and her fragrance lines.

    The magazine said it was Madonna’s highest annual earnings since it began tracking earnings in 1999.

  • Zimbabwe DanceHall Artist Condemns Homosexuality

    Zimbabwe DanceHall Artist Condemns Homosexuality

    {{Zimbabwean reggae/dancehall artistes are taking a cue from Jamaican artistes who for long have condemned homosexuality within the genre.}}

    Artistes like Buju Banton, Shabba Ranks and Elephant Man to mention a few, have openly condemned homosexuality through their hard hitting songs.

    Buju’s chart topping hit “Boom Bye Bye” is seen by those who are pro-gay as a scathing attack on the minority group calling them “Batty bwoy” while Elephant Man’s “Log On” uses such words as “Chichi man” to describe gays.

    And now Zimbabwean dancehall artistes have taken that root to condemn the act and that is hardly surprisingly considering that homosexuality in Zimbabwe is considered culturally a taboo.

    So when Zim Dancehall artistes performed at the Harare Gardens where Guspy Warrior launched his sixth studio album, a good number slammed the act and those doing it.

    Dhadza D who is popularly known as King of Fire revved up the audiences with his energetic songs but in the process denounced gays.

    “Raise your hands up if you’re not gay,” he said to wild applause from the crowd before he introduced his upcoming single called “Menduru”.

    Talented chanter Soul Jah Love who announced his engagement plans to girlfriend Bounty Lisa also roundly condemned gays urging the ghetto youths to shun the practice. Another fiery singer Jiggaz also took the opportunity to denounce homosexuality.

    Judging from the comments made by a number Zim dancehall artistes, it was clear homosexuality has no place in the genre as it is considered a foreign culture.

  • Are Ghanaian Actors Now Taking over Nollywood?

    Are Ghanaian Actors Now Taking over Nollywood?

    {{Ghanaian actors like Jackie Appiah, Van Vicker, Majid Michel, Yvonne Nelson, John Dumelo, Nadia Buari, Yvonne Okoro amongst others have become household names in Nollywood, and Nigeria has become more like home to them.}}

    There have been several questions regarding this phenomenon. Some have asked if this is a healthy development or if the the Ghanaians are gradually taking over the Nigerian movie industry? Nigeriafilms.com spoke with some of the Nollywood stars on this issue and these are their opinions.

    {There shouldn’t be discrimination! – Mercy Aigbe, Actress}

    I don’t think the Ghanaian actors are taking over, I believe we are all one, be it Nigerian, Ghanaian or Kenyan, we are all actors.

    And as an actor, you can be featured in any type of movie, be it Hollywood, Bollywood or Nollywood movies, as long as you are good and the producer believes you can give him the best. There shouldn’t be any discrimination!

    {Nigerians prefer foreign things!- Bob Manuel Udokwu, Actor}

    It’s a sad reflection of Nigeria’s craze for something foreign, even if it’s from smaller countries around us. Those countries don’t reciprocate in kind, so in the end, we become fools! We really need to sit up both as a nation and as an industry (Nollywood).

    {The industry is big enough for everyone – Belinda Effah, Actress}

    I don’t think so. The industry is big enough to accommodate everyone. It’s not a a problem, because I still get to play major roles alongside these Ghanaian actors.

    {We have Nigerians in Hollywood too! – Yvonne Jegede, Actress}

    How can they take over Nollywood.? Nigerians love foreigners and accept them, but that doesn’t mean our birthright is washed off because of that.. Nollywood is big enough to accommodate anybody.

    We have Nigerians in Hollywood too.

    {It has brought about a healthy competition – Theresa Edem, Actress}

    This collaboration has helped the industry to grow. It’s easier for Nollywood to break into Ghana and Africa as a whole. Africans like partnership.

    A united Africa sells anyday, anytime. It’s been a great partnership so far. They’ve added colour to Nollywood and they’ve brought about healthy competition that has made the industry ( Nollywood) to wake up.

    {t’s nothing to worry about – Oma Iyasara, Actress}

    I think they are coming in with force, but it’s nothing to worry about. It happened before and trust me, it won’t last for long, it’s just for a while, I have nothing against them.

    {We own Nollywood – Lola Margret, Actress}
    Nigerians got all it takes and we are more committed than the Ghanaians. We lead while other Africans follow We own Nollywood.

    {The Ghanaians are catching up fast – Bose Arowosegbe, Actress}

    The Ghanians are really catching up with us fast. They learned from Nigerians with very good producers, directors and good crew members who left Nollywood to Ghana. The competition got so high, but we will still continue to be the best in Africa. They are still behind us.

    We are neighbours and they are equally good. A lot of good directors and producers are either from Nigeria or started from Nigeria,so they will sure want to have actors from both sides in the movies.

    {They almost took over – Maureen Cyril, Actress.}

    The Ghanaians almost took over our Nollywood two years ago. Though Nollywood doesn’t have new young actors, just old ones. We need more actors so we can be contented with what we have and not go for Ghanaian actors

    {That can only happen in X-rated movies – Chika Agatha Oguine, Actress}
    Ghanaians taking over Nollywood? Nollywood in Nigeria? That can only happen in X-rated movies, maybe!.

  • Rwanda’s Women Drummers to export their rhythm abroad

    Rwanda’s Women Drummers to export their rhythm abroad

    {Following the success of their work, Rwanda’s women drummers of Ingoma Nshya want to export their rhythm abroad starting with Burundi, assured Odile Gakire, president of the group. }

    These 26 women drummers regularly train at Théâtre de Verdure in Huye.

    Gakire says members of her group have already acquired land, cows and houses with the money they earned as drummers.

    She says in the beginning the work was very difficult due to the cultural constraints where women were not considered to be the best drummers but today things have changed so these women have discovered their potential in drumming.

    “It is not against the tradition to beat the drum as a woman” reassures Mrs. Gakire ,

    “We talked to the museum officials on the issue and they also encouraged us throughout our journey. This route took them everywhere on the continent and it is time to improve the team for better presentation.” We plan to work together with the same team from Burundi and many other team from the region,” concludes Gakire .

  • New ‘Noah’ Movie Criticised

    New ‘Noah’ Movie Criticised

    {{“Noah” director Darren Aronofsky and the movie’s distributor, Paramount Pictures, have run a fierce campaign trying to convince Christian audiences that their biblical epic isn’t some sort of environmental crusade or diatribe against overpopulation.}}

    click to watch clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=klJ1KZz2_iY

    After months of contention, Aronofsky has given his bluntest statement on the Russell Crowe-fronted adaptation yet: “‘Noah’ is the least biblical biblical film ever made,” he told The New Yorker, via Digital Spy. “I don’t give a fuck about the test scores. My films are outside the scores.”

    The test scores Aronofsky refers to come from screenings held for various demographics amid the conflict between Paramount and the director on which version to release.

    Paramount cut its own editions of the film, but at least one detailed in the New Yorker profile — “an 86-minute beatitude that began with a montage of religious imagery and ended with a Christian rock song” — scored lower than Aronofsky’s effort.

    The Oscar-nominated director, whose previous credits include “Black Swan” and “Requiem for a Dream,” relinquished rights to selecting the final cut to Paramount in exchange for an elevated $160 million budget (it was originally to be made for $125 million). After the test screenings, Paramount elected to use Aronofsky’s cut anyway.

    Now, the movie’s campaigns are sure to note that portions of the story stem from Aronofsky’s imagination, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Regardless, the movie is still being banned in some Arab countries, as the depiction of holy figures in art is considered sacrilege in Islam.

    “While artistic license has been taken, we believe that this film is true to the essence, values and integrity of a story that is a cornerstone of faith for millions of people worldwide,” reads the advisory released by Paramount.

    The one branch of reception we haven’t yet seen is from critics, but that will soon change. The movie had its world premiere in Mexico City on Monday, at which Aronofsky took the stage and said, “It’s a very, very different movie. Anything you’re expecting, you’re fucking wrong.”

    Reviews are still embargoed by the studio, but The Hollywood Reporter caught a few critics on their way out, one of whom anonymously praised it and another whom said it was “a bit long and dragged in spots.” Still, a few took to Twitter to post some bare-bones thoughts on the movie:

    “Noah,” opening March 28, co-stars Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson and Logan Lerman. A new clip premiered online on Monday. Watch below.
