    Rapper Mos Def ordered to leave South Africa in passport row

    {The American rapper best known as Mos Def has been ordered to leave South Africa within 14 days after being arrested for breaking immigration laws.}

    Mos Def, now known as Yasiin Bey, was held at Cape Town International Airport on Thursday after trying to leave the country with unrecognised papers.

    The Department of Home Affairs said the 42-year-old produced what he called a “world passport”.

    It said the singer had overstayed his tourist visa, obtained in 2013.
    Born Dante Smith in New York, Mr Bey is now banned from South Africa for five years, but has been allowed to appeal. He had been living in Cape Town since May 2013, South African media said.

    “Further investigation into the matter revealed that Mr Smith’s wife, mother and four children had overstayed and were sojourning in the country illegally,” a statement by the Department of Home Affairs said.

    As well as being nominated for six Grammy Awards, he has appeared in a number of films, including The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Be Kind Rewind and The Italian Job.

    Rene Angelil, husband of Celine Dion, dies

    {Rene Angelil, Celine Dion’s husband and manager, has died at his suburban Las Vegas home, authorities said Thursday. He was 73 and had battled throat cancer.}

    Angelil died in Henderson under the care of a doctor, Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg said.

    Angelil died of natural causes, and no further investigation is expected, he said. Fudenberg’s office was notified of the death Thursday.

    A post on Dion’s official Facebook page also confirmed the death: “It is with deep sadness that we announce that René Angélil, aged 73, died this morning at her residence in Las Vegas after a long and courageous fight against cancer. The family wishes to live the mourning in privacy.”

    Dion and Angelil have three children — Rene-Charles, who was born in 2001 and twins Nelson and Eddy, who arrived in 2010. He also has a son and daughter from his previous two marriages.

    Dion and Angelil, who were 26 years apart in age, married in an elaborate ceremony in 1994 at Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal. He was constantly seen by her side.

    Dion won Grammy awards for songs including the “Titanic” theme “My Heart Will Go On.” She returned to her residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in August after taking a year off to care for her husband.

    Angelil was born in Montreal to a Canadian mother and Syrian father. He played in the group Les Baronnets until 1972, when he began managing the careers of several singers in Quebec.

    Dion’s mother sent him an audio tape in the mail and encouraged him to listen to her daughter, then 12 years old. He took on her career and launched her first English-language album in 1990.

    MINISPOC for vast Rebero entertainment facility

    The Ministry of Sports and Culture has unveiled a plan of building an enterinment center at Rebero hill in Kicukiro district, where various entertainment festivals and concerts will be held.

    In 2014, MINISPOC announced that the entertainment center would be constructed in Remera at a cost of over Rwf 3.3 billion.

    Uwacu Julienne, the Minister of Sports and Culture has told media that the project blueprint was later expanded to bring in several other entertainment platforms.
    The center will be an additional facility to Kigali Cultural Village also expected to be built in Rebero.

    The center and Kigali Cultural Village will be comprised of different facilities including accommodation for tourists, a commercial section and a cultural exhibition wing, sports facilities and gardens.

    “What we expected to do at the stadium was very little compared to what the new project will achieve. We have chosen to make it through a joint venture and build one vast facility that will accommodate entertainment, sports, cultural exhibitions and hosting tourists,” said Uwacu.

    “The project was not stopped but it has been expanded to a higher level. The implementation has started and construction works will soon commence in Rebero,” she added.

    Construction activities are expected to start in the 2016/2017 financial year to be built in collaboration of MINISPOC and Rwanda Development Board.

    Louis de Montfort Mujyambere, the Codeganque head of commercial department said the Miss Rwanda Pageantry is one way of showcasing how much women can contribute to national development in general. He revealed this during the election of ladies that will represent Northern Province over the weekend.

    “As Cogebanque, we warmly welcome this event as it renders value and mirror the progress the country has made in women emancipation, culture and livelihoods of citizens,” he said.

    He revealed that Cogebanque will keep supporting important activities that reflect the progress of the nation. Cogebanque also extends support to Tour du Rwanda.

    Mujyambere said that Cogebanque’s activities go beyond supporting events but actively involved in mobilizing its clients to embrace a culture of saving.

    “We continue to offer saving accounts but we have introduced MasterCard usage to address the challenge and risks of carrying physical money,” he said.

    {Music fans around the world are mourning the loss of music idol David Bowie.

    The British singer, songwriter, producer and actor died surrounded by family members on Sunday, after an 18-month battle with cancer. He was 69.

    Social media has been flooded with tributes and messages of shock at the news of his death.

    “Im Devastated! This great Artist changed my life! First concert i ever saw in Detroit! RIP,” Madonna wrote on Twitter.

    Born David Jones in south London in 1947, Bowie rose to fame with the 1969 single Space Oddity.

    His leap from cult figure to flamboyant rock star was cemented through his alter ego Ziggy Stardust, famous for his wild costumes, avant garde sounds and decadent lifestyle.

    Bowie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

    The letter the management of Miss Heritage sent to Rwanda Inspiration Backup which organizes Miss Rwanda competition, declares that Bagwire Keza Joannah, representing Rwanda has been appointed Miss Heritage Culture Ambassador.

    After receiving the good news, Keza lauded whoever helped her in the preparation of participating in the competition of Miss Heritage World 2015.

    “First and foremost I would like to wish you a prosperous 2016 and take this opportunity to thank each and everyone who have helped me during the campaign of Miss Heritage World 2015 with advice or any other support. I just received good news that I am elected Miss Heritage Culture Ambassador worldwide. I dedicate this award first to the almighty God, my beautiful country, my family, friends and my supporters,” she said via her instagram account.

    The competition was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 15th December 2015. Ziphozinhle Ntlanganiso from South Africa won the crown.

    {Papy Safa John’s melodious voice flickered out when he succumbed to diabetes this week at CHUK. He was 49. As he was interred yesterday, an aura of sadness clouded about, with mourners held in deep grief for the star that bowed out in the middle of his life. His wife, Uzamushaka Maderena, with a creasing face and painful emotions, asked for forgiveness, on behalf of the family, for any faults that her husband may have done while alive.}

    Pappy has been popular for his song “Umutima Ukunda.” At his funeral, fellow artistes recalled his humility and polished character and refined morality.
    ‘We will consolidate his achievements’

    Papy Safa John got married to Uzamushaka in 1995. They begot three children. The family pledged to consolidate their father’s achievements.

    Eric Mucyo who was in the same band with Papy, said the deceased was a humble man. “Even his fans would see and love his peacefulness,” he said.
    “He was a peaceful man who loved her mum with a passion. When he visited us, he would offload his fatigue of at Lake Kivu shores, reading books ,” said one of his sisters.

    Papy Safa John was born in 1966 in Nyamyumba sector, Rubavu district where he did his primary. In 1978, he went to Belgium to study hotel management.

    He returned to Rwanda in 1984 and worked in various hotels including Hôtel des Milles Collines and Hotel Diplomate among others.

    From 1984 to 1990, Pappy played piano in “Les Huit Anges.” In 1990 he headed for Kisangani where he continued his music career.

    On return to Rwanda in 1993, he spent a short time living with his family in Gisenyi before going to Kigali where he resumed his music career and working in hotels.
    In 1994, Pappy and his relatives fled to DRC to return in the country after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. In 1995 Pappy married Uzamushaka Madeleine and they were blessed with three children.

    In 2000 Pappy released his first album called ‘Umutima Ucyeye’ that included many songs of which he became a popular loved artist.

    In 2003 Pappy Safa John represented Rwanda in Festival the festival ofPanafricain de la Musique (FESPAM).

    Pappy released his second album in the year 2010 .In 2014 he announced the suspension of his music career which he resumed in July 2015
    He dies being a popular artist of original songs in famous bars and hotels .

    His burial was attended by various artists including Makanyaga Abdul, Ngarambe François Xavier , Eric Mucyo, MC Lion Imanzi, MC Monday, Patrick Gihana, Aimable Twahirwa and other underground artists.

    {Urusaro International Women Film Festival launched yesterday at Umubano Hotel Kigali, for the first time with an aim of exhibiting films acted by women to demonstrate their talents and capacity in the industry.

    Murekeyisoni Jacqueline, the brain behind the festival and the director of Cinema Femme said it meant to promote women talents as well as sharing with the world the place of Rwandan woman in the industry.

    “We have been empowered. The festival aims at exhibiting how powerful women can be in cinema,” she said.

    The festival is organized under the theme: “A woman on screen,” and has attracted cinema agents from Rwanda and abroad. It will close on 12th December 2015 with awarding the most popular film.

    Mentally disabled runner missing after finishing New York City Marathon

    {An Italian runner with a mental disability disappeared moments after crossing the finish line at the New York City Marathon, police said Monday.}

    Gianclaudio Marengo, 30, had come to the city with a group of runners and finished the grueling 26-mile race before collecting his belongings and vanishing from Central Park around 3 p.m. on Sunday.

    The 5-foot-8, 150-pound Marengo, who only speaks Italian, was last seen wearing a turquoise shirt, black shorts, and a Marathon racing bib with the number 23781 on it, cops said. The bib has a GPS tracker on it, but it doesn’t work off the course.

    Members of Marengo’s running team first reporting him missing to the Italian consulate, which alerted the NYPD.

    The missing man had been staying at the Sleep Inn Hotel on 13th St. in Long Island City, Queens.
