{The minister without portfolio, Abraham Byandala and his co-accused has been committed to High court, Anti-Corruption division to face trial over the fraudulent award of Mukono-Katosi Road contract.}
The accused persons were on Tuesday committed by the Principal Grade One Magistrate; Julius Borore after state prosecutor Brenda Kimbugwe told court that investigations were complete.
“Investigations of the case are complete. I therefore request the accused be committed to High Court for trial,” she asked.
Committal is a process where a lower court hands over the accused to the High Court to face trial which cannot be tried by the lower courts.
The magistrate ordered the suspects to report to the deputy court registrar, Sarah Langa on January 12, 2016 to find out whether the hearing date of their case has been fixed for trial.
Byandala, 65, the minister without Portfolio was charged together with three former Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) officials- Berunado Ssebbugga, 54, (former Acting Executive Director), Joe Ssemugooma, 54, (Acting director finance and Administration), Marvin Baryaruha, 45, (legal counsel). Former Housing Finance Bank official Isaac Mugote was also charged.
