{{The latest Positive Peace Index (PPI) rankings have singled out diamond-rich Botswana as the best governed country in Africa.}}
The southern African country was placed at 41 out of 125 countries, which were measured against eight core governance categories.
The categories include a well-functioning government, good relations with neighbours, free flow of information, respect for human rights and low level of corruption.
Namibia, 51 in the world, were ranked second in the continent with South Africa (53) taking third place while Ghana (55) and Tunisia (58) were fourth and fifth respectively.
Botswana has also emerged among countries, which are considered the most peaceful in the world.
The 2013 Global Peace Index (GPI), which was released this week by the Institute for Economics and Peace, working with the Economist Intelligence Unit, places the country at 32 out of 162 countries.
The indicators were selected by an international panel of academic, business people, philanthropists and peace institutions.
