  • Kagame continues to draw mammoth crowds, promises more in nation building

    {The RFP-Inkontanyi candidate President Paul Kagame, who is set to win with a landslide, continues to draw huge crowds to his rallies, unlike his opponents.}

    On Saturday, the incumbent campaigned in Nyagatare the largest and second most populous district in Rwanda located in Eastern Province, before continuing his campaign trail to Gatsibo and Kayonza.

    Before addressing a rally in Nyagatare, Gatunda the supporters sang “Ni wowe” meaning “It is you” and “Kagame wacu” , our Kagame.

    The RPF Chairman said that Nyagatare District is a symbol of national unity and diversity ushered in by the RPF Inkotanyi after the Genocide against the Tutsi.

    “Nyagatare is a symbol of unity and diversity. It’s probably the only district whose residents came from other parts of the country,” He said

    Before the liberation of the country in 1994, three-quarters of Nyagatare was part of the Akagera National Park and the government of national unity decided to re-demarcate the park ensure a better habitat for the animals and also find space for people.

    President Kagame called upon Nyagatare residents in particular and Rwandans, in general, to work hard to ensure bequeathing Rwanda to the future generation a country that is developed, secure and united.

    “We lived here in Gatundu, we fought hard from here, we won. After we won, we embarked on rebuilding this region and we are not done yet,” said the Chairman.

    He hailed the continued partnership with other political organizations that had joined RPF Inkotanyi supporters for the rally, just like on other rallies, saying that nothing beats a unity of purpose.

    In Nyagatare, Kagame told the supporters that the district has made strides but there is a lot more he will do for them when he remains in office in the next seven years.

    “There is a lot ahead that we want to achieve, all you need is to be patient because there is a lot in store for us. I will work to ensure that no citizens are left behind in the development journey of the country.”

    He then addressed over 100,000 residents of Gatsibo District on the third campaign stop of the day that he began by addressing two back-to-back rallies in Nyagatare.

    “We can endure any challenges we face because they are leading us to an even better future,” he said to the applause of the residents.”

    He told them that much has been achieved but there is still a long way to go, adding that August 4 was an important date for Rwandans in their continued quest for sustainable development.

    “The next seven years should leave us in a better place in terms of development and I have no doubt about that,” he said in the rally he addressed from Kabeza, Kiziguro Sector of Gatsibo.

    He thanked the other political organizations that chose to work with the RPF Inkotanyi in the interest of Rwandan people.

    In Kayonza, he thanked the residents saying that he loves to greet them in evening because they are neighbors.

    RPF-Intonkanyi supporters who lined up along the Rwamagana-Kayonza route waved and sang about the achievements made by Kagame in Rwanda for all those years he has been President.

  • Everyone must stay the course, Kagame tells Kirehe supporters

    {The Chairman of RPF Inkotanyi and flag bearer, President Paul Kagame, on Sunday told residents of Kirehe district that everyone must play a role in staying on the course of development.}

    The President was addressing over 100,000 RPF-Inkontanyi supporters during his campaign trail in the Eastern Province, during his first stop of the day in Kirehe District.

    “The country’s security, development and women empowerment for which Rwanda has won global accolades, should not be taken lightly, but rather everyone must play a role in staying the course.

    “All we strive for is to ensure inclusive development…to ensure you embark on activities that can help you and your families prosper,” Kagame said.

    He added that the way they turned up in large numbers for the rally should characterize their participation in other development activities which he pledged his leadership, if elected, will continue to champion.

    The Chairman thanked the people of Kirehe for their hospitality, specifically thanking them for being hospitable to the thousands of people who a few years ago were expelled from neighboring Tanzania.

  • Ngoma Imams requested to fight radicalism

    {The Mayor of Ngoma District, Nambaje Aphrodis has called on Islamic Imams to raise awareness and sensitize residents about crime prevention and avoid indulgence in radicalism.}

    Mayor Nambaje made the call during a meeting about fighting crime that attracted police, district officials and the Islamic leaders of 30 mosques in Ngoma.

    “Your role is essential, as leaders of the masses you teach you should tell your congregants that crimes negatively impact national development,” he advised.

    “It is not the responsibility of institution x; every leader must understand that it is his responsibility to prevent anything that causes a crime. Your role in crime prevention is vital.” Nambaje said.

    The Police Liaison officer between Rwanda Police and civilians, and other departments in Ngoma District responsible for Police Operations in the District, Inspector of Police (IP) Roger Rwakayiro told the Imams that security is a fundamental pillar for sustainable development; as such, he requested them to make their contribution through mobilization of others to take preventive measures to fight crimes.

    He requested them to share information in time about anything that is suspicious so that the responsible agencies take preventive action.

    The Interim Mufti of Ngoma District, Katano Yassin said, “The meeting was very useful, it enabled us to understand fully our role as a religion, to enforce security, and we will always be doing it.”

  • Police warns on traffic rules during campaigns

    {The National Police Traffic and Road Safety department has called for vigilance to protect and ensure the safety of all road users.}

    The call was made by the spokesperson for Traffic and Road Safety department, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kabanda, who explained that some motorists breach traffic rules and regulations especially in the ongoing presidential campaigns, calling it “an intolerable malpractice.”

    “The campaigns or any other events do not replace laws; they are organized and conducted in consideration of other legal and safety instruments, and traffic rules and regulations are among those legal tools that ensure that people are safe on roads as they enjoy their electoral rights,” CIP Kabanda said.

    “Every vehicle should be used for its purpose and with all the requirements. If it’s licensed to transport people or goods, that should be respected. Appropriate action will be taken against any driver or vehicle that will be found in activities that are contrary,” he added.

    He noted that although there are no major incidents in the ongoing election campaigns, road users should remain vigilant.

    The traffic spokesperson outlined having vehicle insurance and mechanical inspection certificate, driver’s license as well as respecting road safety signposts, as some of the requirements to prevent road carnage.

    “It doesn’t mean that if your mechanical inspection certificate is still valid, you can’t again take your vehicle for inspection. It’s about acting responsibly and vigilance. It is all about your safety, the safety of passengers and all road users, and at the same time ensuring the well-being of families and dependent’s,” CIP Kabanda said.
    He also reminded motorcyclists to always wear helmets, reflector jackets, have insurance and driver’s license, and strictly transport one passenger.

  • Rubavu Mayor arrested for violating rights of campaigners

    {The Mayor of Rubavu District, Sinamenye Jeremie is under arrest for having violated the rights of campaigning teams, during the ongoing Presidential campaigns.}

    This follows the independent candidate Phillippe Mpayimana who was campaigning in Rubavu District, on 20th July 2017 who complained that he failed to get the audience listen to his manifesto in some of the Sectors, which is allegedly attributed to grass roots leadership and one of them was in Rubavu district.

    Rwanda Police Spokesperson, ACP Theos Badege has disclosed that the rights of campaigners are equal, and they must be upheld, failure of which is a crime punishable by the law.

    ACP Theos Badege has echoed that the acts of inconveniencing some of the candidates’ campaigns will not be tolerated. Preliminary investigations reveal, it occurred in Rubavu District in the Sectors of, Nyamyumba and Kanama in Nyaruguru District, Busanza Sector in Nyagatare District and Nyagatare in Rwimiyaga as well as Kirehe District in the Sector of Gahara.

    He said,” For the police to see tha the laws are adhered to, it has apprehended and arrested three local leaders suspected of violating the campaign rules, for some of the Presidential candidates; these are: the Mayor of Rubavu, and one of the staff on a district level, and the Executive Secretary of Busanza Sector in Nyaruguru District.”

    “We want to send a clear message that every person especially leaders from various sectors, and everywhere help to enforce these laws and directives which are guidelines to elections and campaigns, thus giving all the candidates the same opportunities, as required by the law.”

    He pointed out that life has to continue as usual; workers in government institutions, commercial activities, which are highly needed while people are traveling to or from campaign trails.

  • Musabyimana Munezero make history in 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games

    {Rwanda female beach volley pair of Valentine and Penelope Musabyimana and Valentine Munezero made history, storming the Semi-finals of the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games on Friday in Nassau Bahamas.}

    The pair reached the semis after winning three games out of five gamesplayed; they later lost a resilient and solid Australian side made up of Rebecca Ingram and Van Rensburg by 2-0 set.

    Rwanda will now face Scotland to try and win bronze in the second play-off game on Saturday at 10:00 am.

    The Rwandan pair lost a match in the four games they have played after failing to brush aside New Zealand in the second game by losing 2-0 (21-10,21-19) beforehand they faced off Trinidad Tobago 2-1(21-17),21-16 an d15-13) in the opening game before booking a date with Australia on Friday.

    They later beat Saint Lucia by winning 2-0 (21-15, 21-17, 21-7) to clinch a third win to book a ticket to the Semi’s against Australia on Friday.

    Rwanda is also represented by another young start E0rnestHabiyambere in the male category. He could failed to reached second round after losing to Mathew Stubbings from Papua Guinea by 2-0 (6-2, 6-3).

    In the other semi-final, New Zealand will take on Scotland at 7:40pm.

  • Telemedicine launched at Shyira Hospital

    {The government of Rwanda through The Ministry of Health has inaugurated Telemedicine at Shyira District Hospital in Nyabihu District, Western Rwanda to facilitate the access of health professionals’ opinion during patient diagnosis and treatment. }

    The telemedicine equipment was donated under a partnership between the Rotary clubs from Musanze, Burera and the Global Offsite care Shyira to high level health facilities in Rwanda and internationally to get a second opinion by specialists, supporting diagnosis and capacity building and reduce face to face interventions.

    “Telemedicine enables us to help patients to get access to timely treatment through sharing their symptoms hence fastening the diagnosis,” says Theoneste Rubanzabigwi, Director of Shyira District Hospital.

    Innocent Turate, Director of Institute of HIV/AIDS, Disease Prevention, and Control (IHDPC) at Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) says telemedicine will also benefit the Hospital through capacity building trainings for health professionals at almost zero cost. “One on one trainings are costly but with this new initiative, educative online conferences, trainings will be availed on different health issues without requiring people to travel,” says Dr Turate.

    He also added that the initiative will minimize patient transfers since medics will be able to collaborate with different specialists countrywide. Telemedicine will cut down on transfer costs like dispatching ambulances taking patients to different transfer destinations. “We are glad about this initiative. It will help us comfortably access treatment from our home area and cut on the expenditure on food and other necessities we usually incur when our patients are transferred to Kigali, “says Claudine Uwamariya, Shyira resident. The initiative was done under a great partnership with the Rotary clubs from Musanze, Burera and the Global Offsite care represented at the ceremony by the Ambassador, Princess Dr Franses KEMELAGHA.

    Rwanda national team avoided the humiliation of defeat and kept firmly on the road to Kenya, after a goalless draw with Tanzania in a game that ended 1-1 aggregate on Saturday at Nyamirambo stadium.

    The fact that Amavubi was blessed with one away goal scored by Dominique Savio Nshuti in the first leg played away in Mwanza meant they avoided the humiliation of defeat and kept firmly on the road to face Uganda, Cranes that hammered South Sudan 5-1in the other encounter.

    Rwanda head coach Antonia Hey, made a few changes in his squad compared to that featured in the first leg in Mwanza hoping to score given the home advantage but it did not produce any positive results.

  • MINEDUC to resume construction of teachers’ houses

    {The Ministry of Education has announced that it will commence with the project of constructing houses for teachers that had stalled. }

    The project was initiated by the Ministry of education (MINEDUC) in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government (MINALOC). Since the inception of the project in 2013, about 300 were constructed and now serve residential houses while 116 were mid way constructed.

    Rwanda Education Board (REB) told IGIHE that such houses are a solution to the challenge faced by teachers working in Kigali City and other towns.
    REB says that two houses are expected to be constructed in every Sector with the capacity to accommodate eight, including four female teachers, and four male teachers.

    The Director for Rwanda Education Board, Gasana Janvier in an interview with IGIHE, revealed that; “Initially the budget was understated so we had to carry forward the payments to the next fiscal year. Some funds were allocated to meet urgent project needs.”

    In some other cases, Gasana adds “Some houses were occupied by people that are not teachers.
