  • Uhuru files defence against Nasa petition

    President Uhuru Kenyatta legal team on Thursday filed his response to an election petition challenging his win filed by National Super Alliance leader Raila Odinga.

    The President’s lawyers said they will file documents “but not all of them” Adding “They are confident that there is nothing to worry about in the petition as the election was peaceful.”

    “We are confident about the answers we give, We are bullish about everything we have done. And let the case start. We are ready, ” said Mr. Abdullahi one of the lawyers said

    Earlier, a message was posted on President Kenyatta’s Facebook account read: We are now ready to file our response.

    In the pictures, the President was flanked by Jubilee Party Chief Agent Davis Chirchir, lawyers Fred Ngatia, Mr. Abdullahi, and Mr. Monari.

    Mr. Odinga filed his case challenging President Kenyatta’s election some minutes to midnight on Friday, paving the way for a rigorous, 14-day marathon courtroom battle.
    In the petition, the opposition leader and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka have named President Kenyatta, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and its chairman Wafula Chebukati as respondents.

    In directions issued by Chief Justice David Maraga, who is also the President of the Supreme Court, Nasa is required to file their written submissions by 1 pm Friday while IEBC, its chairman, and President Kenyatta are required to file theirs by 3 pm.

    On Friday morning, parties were supposed to appear in court for interlocutory applications while the pre-trial conference will be held on Saturday.

    In affidavits expected to be filed in court, President Kenyatta, his agents Mr. Chirchir, Winnie Guchu, and Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho are among those who filed their statements in opposition to Nasa’s petition.

    Mani Martin mourns Paluku

    Rwandan RnB singer, Mani Martin has paid tribute to Mr. Norbert Paluku who was shot dead at Amani Festival in Goma in Democratic Republic of Congo in the midnight of 9th February 2017.

    Mani Martin who was among artistes that performed in the concert has joined mourners wishing Paluku to rest in peace.

    “R.I.P brother Norbert Paluku a.k.a Djoo. The man who lost his life last Thursday night by a gun shot at the Venue of Amani festival. He was shot dead in front of the stage where my band and I were doing the sound check as it was a night before my performance. His smiling face will remain on our minds. We will always remember his love and hard work. Let’s say no to violence,” he said in a message posted on Instagram.

    Norbert Paluku was shot dead at Amani Festival in Goma in Democratic Republic of Congo in the midnight of 9th February 2017.

    Paluku was among Amani Festival organizers. He was shot dead on the festival site as he intervened to mediate in a conflict between a policeman of Goma and a volunteer in the group of scouts, Ezéchiel Bandu who maintained order among spectators.

    As Paluku intervened for mediation to settle the dispute, a policeman shot both Paluku and the young boy.

    Being in critical condition, both Paluku and Bandu were taken to Heal Africa Hospital of Goma where he died later. The second victim is still hospitalized.

    The incident shocked Amani Festival participants and organizers.

  • Miss Rwanda boot camp kicks off

    A total of fifteen Miss Rwanda beauty pageant contestants have headed to Nyamata to start a two-week boot camp at Golden Tulip Hotel in Nyamata town of Bugesera District.

    The beauty queens arrived at Golden Tulip Hotel yesterday accompanied by the Rwanda Inspiration Back Up representatives who have been organizing Miss Rwanda contest since 2014.

    The boot camp of 15 contestants was preceded by Miss Rwanda auditions held in four provinces that started on 9th January to be concluded 4th February 2017 in Kigali city.

    The panel of judges selected fifteen candidates during the semi-final event that was held at Petit Stade.

    Girls to grace the grand finale stage include Umutoni Pamella, Mukabagabo Carine, Uwase Hirwa Honorine, Iradukunda Elsa, Umutoni Uwase Belinda, Umutesi Aisha, Umutoni Tracy Ford, ShimwaGuelda, MukundeLaurette, Ashimwe Fiona Doreen, UmuhozaSimbiFanique, Kalimpinya Queen, Umutesi Nadia, Iribagiza Patience ndetse and Umutoniwase Linda.

    Ishimwe Dieudonne, Rwanda Inspiration Back Up CEO said that during the two-week stay at Nyamata Golden Tulip, all the contestants will be taken through civic and etiquette education, Rwanda’s history, public speaking among courses related to moral values of Rwandan community.

    “They are going to be taken through learning about moral values and taboos of Rwandan culture. During this boot camp, they will learn history of their country, public speaking and how a woman should behave in public. They will meet different public figures who will explain them more about government programs”, Said Ishimwe.

    He explained that the contestants will be given an insight of things that should characterize the lady worth to be crowned Miss Rwanda.

    Recent votes placed Kalimpinya Queen, southern province representative on top of the semi-finalists with more than 18609 votes followed by Umutoniwase Linda from Eastern Province with 15220 votes and Umuhoza Simbi Fanique being the third with 14943.

    The grand finale is due on 25th February 2017 in Akagera Tent at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (Camp Kigali) at 5:00 pm. The entrance fees will be announced soon.
