{DEPUTY Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Communication, Engineer Edwin Ngonyani has urged Road Fund Board (RFB) to ensure that the money deployed for the construction of roads to all municipalities in the country is used as planned.}
He also directed FRB to immediately stop deploying money to any municipality in the country which used the fund for other activities, and that stern measures should be taken as soon as possible.
Speaking over the weekend during an official visit to FRB office in Dar es Salaam, Eng Ngonyani said that the move has led to delay for the implementation of road constructions due to negligence of a few people.
“I direct you (Director of RFB) to ensure that all money deployed for the construction of roads in the councils is used as planned. I want to see that the construction of roads in the country is implemented within the set time,” he said.
The minister directed RFB to make sure stern measures will be taken immediately to Bukoba rural council where over 120m/- of road construction was used for other activities. “I am very sorry to see the money that was planned to construct a road was used for another activity without any negotiation with responsible authorities.
I call upon all municipalities to ensure the money is used as intended,” he said. He further said he needs to see RFB is doing their job effectively and very carefully in order to meet their target for the development of the nation.
He asked all directors and municipalities in the country to employ engineers who are registered by the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) in order to work effectively and seriously.
On his part, the RFB Director, Eng Jeseph Haule, said that there are many challenges they face in implementing their daily duties although the fund was increased from 73bn/- in 2005 to 752 bn/-this year.
According to Eng Haule, in ensuring monitoring and management of these funds is implemented, RFB has already taken measures to three municipalities in the country including Kinindoni in Dar es Salaam, Songea rural and Bukoba rural.
