Tanzania:State to inspect certificates

THE days of employees who gained employment in the public sector using forged certificates, are numbered, the government has warned.

The President’s Office – Public Service Management, is currently verifying employee certificates to ensure only those with genuine documents and qualifications are retained.

Minister of State, President’s Office –Regional Administration, Local Government, Civil Service and Good Governance, Ms Angella Kairuki, warned that no stone would be left unturned until every government employee has been verified.

Ms Kairuki directed the ministry’s Department of Human Resources to act on employees who will be discovered to possess qualifications that are not theirs in order to obtain employment in the government.

Ms Kairuki gave these directives yesterday during her continued tour of departments and agencies of Public Service Management under the President’s Office. “All employees who are in the payroll and found to be using documents that do not belong to them, will be taken to task,” she said.

The minister demanded from the Director of the Department, Mr Emmanuel Mlay to find a lasting solution to the problem of employees using fake certificates. “Make sure you present all certificates to the National Examinations Council of Tanzania for verification and after the exercise take appropriate action on those with fake documents,” she cited.

The deputy Director in the department, Mr Leonard Mchau, said that Public Service Management office has verified 704 employees and out of them 219 were found to have used fake certificates.

Mr Mchau added that after the discovery, some of the employees ran away from their posts of employment. He used the opportunity to urge the public to refrain from using forged documents to get employment in public offices.

“It is a criminal offence to forge any document for whatever reason, once you are found out, we will punish you in accordance to requirements of the law,” he said.
