{Alex Ssempijja, one of the “triplets” in musician Ediriisa Musuuza, aka Eddie Kenzo’s famous Sitya Loss video, has been laid to rest.}
Ssempijja, 14, was buried at his ancestral home in Butambala, in Mpigi District yesterday amid heavy rain.
His casket was lowered into the grave at exactly 4.30pm as hundreds bid him farewell.
Ssempijja died on Monday in Luwafu, Makindye Division in Kampala, after he succumbed to accident injuries.
Earlier, he was reported to have been riding a bicycle when its brakes failed and he hit his head on the edge of a metallic door. He was with a colleague, Patricia Nabakoza, 12, who also featured in the same video. Yesterday at the funeral, it was said Ssempijja fell in a trench and was rushed to Nsambya Hospital then Rubaga hospital where he passed on a few minutes after his arrival.
Earlier in the day, a requiem Mass was held at St Agnes Church in Makindye at 11am.
At the burial, Eddy Kenzo was inconsolable. He talked of the deceased as a member of the Sitya Loss group, who was his personal friend.
“Apart from just recording music and shooting dance videos together, Alex was a personal friend unlike the other group members. He could come to me for advice regarding different issues,” Kenzo said, adding that most people believe he is the one who made him what he is.
“But it was a combined effort. I will dearly miss him,” he said.
The deceased’s father, Mr Patrick Kiggundu, apologised for having failed to take care of his son saying he wasn’t financially stable.
“I couldn’t afford to pay for his school fees but I was happy that he was in school. He was also earning money from dancing which he could also send home to help us as a family, I will dearly miss him,” Mr Kiggundu said.
Currently, Patricia Nabakooba, who was in the Intensive Care Unit at Case Clinic in Kampala, is out of danger. “Nabakooza can now talk, she recognises everyone around her and the doctors said she will be fine” Mr Dauda Kavuma, their foster parent and trainer said.
Ssempijja was in Senior Two, waiting to join Seniro Three next year at Emirates College in Makindye.
