Angolan President Receives Message From Ugandan Counterpart

{Luanda — The Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, received on Tuesday at Luanda’s Presidential Palace a message from his counterpart of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, whose content was not disclosed.}

The bearer of the letter was the Ugandan minister of Defense Crispus Kyonga, as special envoy of the Ugandan leader, who was received in audience by President Jose Eduardo dos Santos.

Speaking to the press about the current situation in the Great Lakes region, particularly the prevailing crisis in Burundi, Crispus Kyonda briefly said that his president was appointed to mediate the internal conflict in that country between the government and opposition, a process that is underway.

“We cannot yet assess the results of this mediation”, he said.

José Eduardo dos Santos is the acting President of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), a regional body set up after the political conflicts that marked the Great Lakes region in 1994.

ICGLR is comprised by Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Congo, DR Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.
